When did you ruin the surprise?
Scott asked listeners about moments when they accidentally revealed a surprise.
The idea followed Stacey Solomon apparently referring to her unborn baby as “he” in a social-media video, as well as Sharon Osbourne discussing her daughter Kelly’s baby before Kelly had shared the details herself.
Kaz in Bristol had organised a visit from her husband’s old school friends for his 59th birthday. After a few drinks, she told him exactly who was coming.
Another listener booked a surprise trip to Copenhagen to see Coldplay, only for the airline’s autofill system to email the itinerary directly to her husband.
The Birthday Game: Lindis
Lindis from Maidstone turned 55 and spent the day working as a senior manager with nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and administrative staff.
Her colleagues called themselves the Maidstone Incredibles.
She shared her birthday with Bradley Cooper and Vinnie Jones.
Her first spin was Stormzy featuring Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy’s Own It, number one in 2020. Lindis rejected it.
She continued to the second and third spins, accepting the risk that the final song would become compulsory.
Scott also read a message from Gillian, a self-employed personal assistant who turned 61 and said the day felt flat after the fuss of her previous milestone birthday.
Ant and Dec on Limitless Win
Ant and Dec joined Scott ahead of a new series of Limitless Win.
They said the appeal of the quiz was that they did not know the questions or answers in advance, so they could play along with the contestants.
Unlike programmes built around specialist knowledge, the questions involved everyday objects and experiences, such as the number of holes in a potato waffle.
They said they became invested in helping contestants climb as high as possible, without worrying about how much prize money ITV might have to pay.
The pair also reflected on returning to Australia for I’m a Celebrity. After two years filming in Wales, they appreciated the sunshine and the familiar setting more than before.
Their families travelled with them, making the experience less like the holidays they had taken together in earlier years.
Ant and Dec play Speedmates
Scott tested how well the pair knew each other after decades working together.
Ant’s first question asked for Dec’s solo line following “straight up proving” in Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble.
Ant answered, “This will get you grooving,” but the correct lyric was: “We can get you grooving.” Scott refused to allow the near miss.
Dec correctly named Why Don’t You? as Ant’s first television programme before they worked together.
Ant then correctly named Rocky as Dec’s dachshund.
Dec remembered that the paint that blinded PJ in the famous Byker Grove scene was yellow. “This is burned onto my memory,” he said.
Ant drew level by identifying Dec’s distant relative Dixie Carter as a wrestling promoter and wrestler.
Dec won the game by correctly answering that Ant had once listed spiders as his greatest fear.
Ant argued that years on I’m a Celebrity had desensitised him, but accepted that the answer had appeared in an old Smash Hits interview.
Ant calls Zoe Ball
As the loser, Ant had to call Zoe Ball and pitch a deliberately awful reality programme.
The proposed show was called Look Who’s for Dinner. A group of celebrities would survive a plane crash in Antarctica with no food and eventually decide which contestant to eat.
Ant claimed Dec would host and that Anton Du Beke, Tess Daly, a contestant from Big Brother 6 and possibly Ed Balls had already agreed.
Zoe immediately understood the cannibalism premise.
She worried there would be “no meat” on Tess Daly, but said she was cheap and could be counted as a yes.
Scott then revealed himself on the call. Zoe continued playing along and suggested Ed Balls might be useful because he made a good shepherd’s pie.
Ant and Dec joked that the idea was not much stranger than Naked and Afraid.
Scott recalled once sleepwalking naked into a hotel corridor in Nottingham and hearing the door lock behind him. “I was naked and afraid then too,” he said.
Handover
OJ Borg was again sitting in for Sara Cox.
Scott handed over after Ant and Dec promoted Limitless Win and listeners remembered the yellow-paint scene from Byker Grove.
