Mika visits to discuss the upcoming BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, and Scott challenges him to beat a record-breaking prank call to an estate agent — with Mika’s Lollipop Girl character as the angle.
Mika is on the show to promote the Big Weekend festival happening that weekend in Preston. The conversation kicks off with Eurovision chat — Mika’s entry came second to bottom, which he and Scott agree was “so bad” — before moving to his stage characters, particularly the enthusiastic Lollipop Girl (a recurring persona at his gigs). Scott and Mika discuss how fans have started attending Mika’s shows in fancy dress as these characters, and Mika encourages people to come to the Big Weekend gig dressed up; Scott mentions he’s sponsoring a prize of dinner with Danny Howard.
The pair then play a song-guessing game called Song Tapper, where Mika taps out melodies on the spacebar for the system to identify. It doesn’t go particularly well.
The highlight is an extended prank-call bit. Scott reveals he once kept an estate agent on the phone for two minutes 14 seconds while doing an impression of Mika, and challenges Mika to beat that record. Mika accepts. Scott and a team member (credited as “Pigeon Girl”) call a local estate agent pretending to represent Danny Howard looking for property. Once the agent is on the line, “Danny Howard” (Scott doing his Mika impression) takes over, launching into an increasingly absurd story about needing multiple bedrooms because he has eight (later twelve on weekdays) boyfriends who can’t stay in the same room simultaneously, and requiring a doorman for security. The agent is bewildered and helpless as Scott repeatedly has to pause to do radio announcements during the call. Mika eventually beats Scott’s time, clocking three minutes 49 seconds.
