27 March 2008: Naked Bath Phone Calls and Paris Hilton’s Best Friend Wannabes

Scott and Chappers explore the surprisingly awkward (or oddly comfortable) experience of chatting on the phone while naked in the bath, plus Chappers’ vocal talents get an unexpected airing in a Currys electrical store.

The show opens with a pointless survey revealing that 41.2% of people have taken their mobile phones into the bath to make calls, send emails, or play games. Scott quizzes Chappers about whether he’s ever spoken to him while bathing, establishing that doing so creates an uncomfortable mental image. They decide to test this theory by inviting listeners currently in their baths to call in live.

Several callers take part, including Lee (who’s relaxing with bubbles and balls), Casey (reading Harry Potter between shifts working with sheep on an agricultural college), Lucy (who admits to feeling slightly awkward), and Ellie. The callers provide varying reactions—some genuinely uncomfortable, others unbothered by the concept. Scott finds himself warming to the idea over the course of the segment, and the two female callers even strike up a brief chat with each other while both in the bath.

The show’s other major feature involves the creation of a fake Mark Chapman album featuring Chappers singing parody versions of chart hits like “Chasing Pavements” and “Keep Bleeding Love.” Tim, an employee at Currys Digital in Crawley, is sent the CD and uses it to demo their high-fi equipment to customers. When the track is played on loop, customers gather around the display rather than leaving the shop, despite many finding it bewildering. Tim is encouraged to keep playing it all week as an experiment.

The episode also features several applicants hoping to become Paris Hilton’s new best friend online, including “Lola Granola the country I adore” (who describes herself as “large and in charge”), Jamie (who reveals she’s a sperm donor baby), and Ethan (who claims multiple jobs but struggles to articulate a genuine secret).
