30 August 2007: High School Musical Surprise for Cass

Scott surprises an 11-year-old girl named Cass with an incredible gift after she bravely dealt with losing her best friend in a tragic accident — bringing in members of the High School Musical cast to invite her to the London premiere.

The episode opens with a cookery-themed Innuendo Bingo feature, highlighting unintentionally suggestive moments from cooking shows featuring Ainsley Harriet and Jamie Oliver. Presenters play clips where chefs discuss “balls,” “batters,” and “spit roasting” with straight-faced delivery, debating whether the innuendo is intentional.

The heart of the episode is a Random Act of Kindness: Scott speaks to Nikki, the mother of Cass, an 11-year-old girl who lost her best friend Gabby in a fatal car accident the previous year while Gabby’s family was on holiday. Cass and Gabby had been inseparable since primary school, attending school together daily and sharing dance classes. The tragedy happened just before Cass turned 10, and she’s been incredibly brave throughout the grieving process — even reading at Gabby’s funeral in front of hundreds of people. Now facing secondary school in a new area where she knows nobody, Cass is nervous about the transition.

Nikki reveals that Cass is a devoted High School Musical fan, watching the films constantly and knowing all the dances and songs. Scott arranges a surprise: he has brought four actual cast members from High School Musical — Zach Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman — into the studio. They call Cass on air, expressing their sympathy for her loss and inviting her as their special guest to the London premiere happening that Sunday, complete with a hotel stay and red carpet experience.

The episode closes with Alan Carr reading out the week’s Flirt Divert text messages — cheeky, occasionally cringe-worthy, and sometimes bewildering attempts at chat-up lines sent in by listeners.
