Scott, Chappers, and Laura air their frustrations with each other in a dimly lit “safe zone” session, revealing the small but accumulating annoyances that have built up during weeks of intense working together.
Following a period of particularly close teamwork—including a two-week breakfast show stint and time spent together on a tour bus—the Scott Mills Show team decides it’s time to clear the air. Scott introduces the Honesty Game, a feature the show has run before, explaining that by dimming the lights they create a “safe zone” where grievances can be aired without taking offense or holding grudges once the lights come back on. The rule is that comments made in the dark won’t be brought up again once normal service resumes.
Chappers goes first, accusing Scott of being selfish about hot drinks—specifically that Scott always brings his own beverage to the studio without ever offering to get one for the rest of the team, unlike the others who routinely ask around. Scott responds with his own grievance about Laura, suggesting that since getting a boyfriend and the intensity of recent work, she’s become complacent about her admin duties and no longer takes them as seriously as she once did. Another team member (identified in the transcript as “the one that doesn’t speak”) complains that Laura has been snappy with them lately. Laura then turns her criticism on Chappers/Mark, saying he’s neglected his sports duties, arrives later than he should, and is spending too much energy promoting his tours rather than focusing on his core responsibilities to the show.
By the end, the team reports feeling better, with Scott noting they can “really move on from this now” and that he’s “got a lot off [his] chest.”
