9 June 2016: Joe Wicks plays one of the wettest Innuendo Bingos yet

The Body Coach gets soaked

Joe Wicks joined the programme shortly before publishing his second book. He had been named the second most influential person in food behind Jamie Oliver, sold almost 800,000 copies of his first book and was credited with helping increase tenderstem broccoli sales by 25%.

Chris approved of Joe’s burgers, curries and pancakes but wanted him to make exercise as easy as the healthy food looked. Joe explained that his high-intensity sessions were deliberately hard but lasted only 15 to 25 minutes. The shorter effort continued burning calories afterwards, allowing people to fit it around the rest of their day.

Joe then played Innuendo Bingo against Chris. Clips from rugby, Springwatch, Radio 2 and Nigel Slater produced one of the wettest games in the feature’s history. The final instruction, to let kale darken and soften before throwing in sausage and nuts, finished Joe off. Listeners called it the best edition they had heard, while Scott admitted it was one of the occasions when he completely lost control of the clips.

Kristoff takes plums to Universal

Chris prepared for his first appearance as Radio 1 film critic Kristoff with specially commissioned jingles, background music and the black rollneck photograph. His only new release was Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss, so he planned to fill the remaining time by revisiting older films including Sex and the City 2.

He decided Ali Plumb’s rating system had been too cowardly because the recipients never physically received their fruit. Carrying a bag of plums, Chris left the studio and stood outside Universal’s London office hoping to hand his verdict to someone connected with the film.

Every person leaving denied involvement. Security moved him away from the building, leaving him unable even to see the office he was meant to be covering. A passer-by eventually accepted the fruit, but she had nothing to do with Universal or The Boss. Scott called it one of their most complete outside-broadcast failures; Chris blamed a film industry unwilling to embrace him.

Four-nil on Bangers

Scott entered Battle of the Bangers three-nil behind. His Big Weekend choice from Chase & Status faced Chris’s nostalgic JoJo selection, and the listener again chose Chris.

The four-nil result settled the week before Scott left for his Eurovision-related trip. Chris departed to deliver his reviews on Greg James’s programme, while Scott suggested everyone use the break to catch up on Innuendo Bingo and Playground Insults.
