2 June 2016: Reggie N Bollie face their first Innuendo Bingo

Reggie N Bollie get wet

Scott and Chris were unreasonably excited to welcome Reggie N Bollie, whose X Factor performances they had once played during their own Christmas party DJ set. The pair discussed their post-show life, including dinner with Cheryl and the reception from supporters when they returned to Ghana. They had not yet settled on a collective name for their fans, so the show invited suggestions.

They performed an impromptu dance to “New Girl” before sitting opposite Chris for Innuendo Bingo. Reggie had come particularly well prepared, bringing a red spare shirt on its own hanger, although the holes in his jeans left plenty of room for water to get through.

The clips included Jeremy Vine describing a limousine sliding up a drive, Rachel Riley advising a contestant to “start today with D”, a BBC Wiltshire guest explaining how much she enjoyed coming at night, and commentary from the Isle of Man TT. Reggie N Bollie attacked the game with the same enthusiasm as their live performances and left the studio drenched.

Will Grigg catches fire

For Show and Tell, Chris traced the extraordinary rise of “Will Grigg’s on Fire”. Wigan Athletic supporter Sean Kennedy had filmed himself singing the chant to the tune of Gala’s “Freed from Desire”, and clips of entire pubs and clubs repeating it were now attracting hundreds of thousands of views.

The story became stranger when dance duo Blonde turned the webcam chant into a properly produced charity single under the name DJ Kenno. One of the people behind the recording called during the show and explained that Blonde already had a version of “Freed from Desire” in their DJ set. A joking offer to remix the fan’s vocal escalated until the club chairman became involved and the track was released to raise money.

Scott and Chris immediately wondered whether Craig David could add a verse. What had begun with one supporter behind a laptop had become a song played in clubs, available to download and now heard on Radio 1.

Post, pizza and Greg James

The show’s neglected postbox was overflowing, possibly with Christmas cards and charity calendars that had been waiting for six months. A listener suggested opening it live, while Scott and Chris worried that Matt Edmondson would turn the same idea into a successful online broadcast first.

Greg James joined Real or No Real, where the facts included pizza deliveries to commuters, a fictitious invasion of Weasel Bay by 100,000 ferrets and real odour-absorbing underwear called Shreddies. Scott and Greg finished level on 20 points.
