Ricky does not quite know what is coming
Ricky Wilson arrived believing he was simply playing a game. Replies to his pre-show tweet had begun warning him about Innuendo Bingo, but Scott suspected nobody had fully explained the amount of water involved.
Before changing, Ricky discussed his return to The Voice. He said he had gone back because he enjoyed making the programme, despite having no Kaiser Chiefs release to promote that year. His expressive face sometimes revealed when he regretted turning his chair, although he remained reluctant to destroy a contestant’s confidence.
Rhianna Dhillon took the opposite chair. Scott assured Ricky that she was an experienced opponent who had already survived some of the game’s strongest players.
One of Bingo’s finest sprays
Ricky proved unusually effective. Even when a clip did not make him laugh, he simply fired the water directly at Rhianna, producing a solid spray which Scott compared with a water gun.
The clips included Norris Cole recalling milk puddings in Coronation Street, a hotel owner storing clutter in his “glory hole”, Reggie Yates reporting on scantily clad Vernon Kay fans and a discussion of work being completed “cash in hand”. Emilie Sande’s accidental promise that Clara Amfo would “smash it in Fearne Cotton’s slot” returned from the previous game.
Ricky also faced material from The Voice, including his own school recollections. By the end, the floor, clothing and players were soaked. Scott called it one of the finest editions yet, particularly because Ricky had treated every round as an opportunity to spray Rhianna.
Unlucky Gary survives France
Listeners had asked what happened to Unlucky Gary after his exchange-style stay with a French family. He returned from Grenoble without a major disaster, although eating snails had apparently given him food poisoning for two days.
Scott had wondered whether the family were deliberately presenting every French stereotype to their 26-year-old guest. Other listeners reported that snails genuinely appeared on menus throughout the region, making Gary’s experience less suspicious than it sounded.
Holly auditions as Chris’s replacement
With Chris away, Southampton student Holly rang to offer her services. She brought a Show and Tell clip from the German version of Got to Dance, where Howard Donald began giving feedback in German before abandoning the attempt and continuing in English.
Scott appreciated having a listener arrive with usable material and allowed Holly to regard herself as a temporary member of the programme. Chris was not due back until the following week, giving her several days to make the position her own.
