Beccy raps Azealia Banks and Chris tests coffee-shop names
The new afternoon show began with Sam’s highly specific claim that he had delivered pork pies to Mariah Carey. It turned out to have happened during a spoof video for The Friday Night Project, where he had been cast as the delivery man and got close enough to be removed from the scene by a Justin Lee Collins bodyguard.
Beccy Raps returned with her Somerset take on Azealia Banks’ 212. Scott and Chris treated the speed and density of the song as a considerable undertaking, while listeners quickly began proposing ever more ambitious songs for her to tackle next.
Chris had noticed that coffee shops were increasingly asking for customers’ names and writing them on cups. Rather than simply supplying his own, he went out with a microphone to see where the limit was, beginning with “Chicka Chicka Slim Shady”, which was accepted and read back to him at the collection point.
The experiment continued with “Randy” and another deliberately rude name, none of which seemed to trouble the staff nearly as much as Chris expected. The team also heard from Louise, whose coffee order in Miami had somehow been called out for “Bernard”.
Elsewhere, the programme discussed model-photo-shoot vouchers, a nightclub toilet attendant who improvised songs for customers, and the team’s new affection for BBC Radio Humberside’s Barrol and Betty. It was the kind of opening show that turned minor public rituals into a full afternoon’s investigation.
