The Scott Mills Bridge is now open

Scott Mills BridgeThe Scott Mills Bridge was officially opened today – three months after the show went on a quest to name different things after Scott.

In a ceremony attended by Chris Stark, a Welcome Break boss, and even a security a plaque was unveiled that recognised that it is named after the DJ.

The bridge is a footbridge which runs over Fleet services on the M3, and has now been officially placed on Google maps as well as Facebook places. It is said that the bridge will remain named after Mills indefinitely (or at least until someone removes the plaque).

Speaking at the event, Chris Stark gave a powerful speech: “The Great Pyramid of Giza. Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Statue of Zeus at Olympia. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. Colossus of Rhodes. Lighthouse of Alexandria… Today we see an eight wonder added to this list.”

He added: “What a time to be alive”.

As well having a bridge named after him the DJ has also had a toilet block named after him at Eastleigh Football Club in Southampton.

"Just as Scott bridges the gap between Nick Grimshaw and Greg James on Radio 1, now he will connect two sides of this remarkable service station."It's been a big day for Scott Mills. Read all about the amazing journey leading up to #ScottsBigOpening: http://bbc.in/1JOsbfg
