  1. I'm a regular listener to X. Loved Phil's Evening Show bit he has vanished. Gordon Smart took over the show last month. No announcement on where Phil would move to and his social media feeds have gone quiet. Vwry bizarre. But R1 Breakfast as much as I like him. He has no chance. Specialist show maybe?

Or Mills / James for breakfast and he could slip into day programs

  2. Why should they let him?

Why should they let him do the breakfast show? Radio 1 itself has got so many great presenters to do it. There's Mills, there's Greg, there's Edmondson (no, I don't think Levine or Dev are ready yet). Why should the bosses take the risk of getting someone completely strange, without any experience and from a rival station? Imagine he's even worse than Grimshaw. Mills did so many great step-ins, I think it's time to leave him with the job. A thing that could support my point is that they produced his own personal imaging, which is not worth doing for a few weeks of step-ins a year. And WHOOOOOOOOO is Phil Clinton? I've never heard of him! We'll see in April.

  3. I agree with you there, the 10-1 slot is the time needing interaction the least, however what puts Radio 1 above everyone else is that there is personality and DJs are allowed to express themselves a bit more. So while Clara is fulfilling the brief for her show, it is turning a bit into a commercial station show with short links and just talking about the music.
Alice brought personality and extended interaction but if she could still fit the brief of new music etc then she would be a good replacement for Clara. I don't think Clara can mix enough personality with generic radio to the extent Radio 1 are looking for.

When Adele sat in, she played the wakey-wakey game and stuff. You don't have to get some minute long features on, like Innuendo Bingo, but at least something apart from playing music to stick out.

  4. 15 year old's and below aren't interested in Radio. They've grown up with ipods, and youtube and spotify and therefore never had to use Radio like we did in the 90's and early 2000's.

They hire out one of the studio's at a station I'm at, for students from the uni to use on media courses. Just last week I chatted to the tutor who was overseeing a few students recording demo's etc. And he told me that they didn't know the difference between Radio 1 & Radio 4. One told him they had actually never listened to Radio 1 at any point in their life, incredible considering what they are studying.

But it goes to show Radio 1 is facing a lost battle with trying to pull in children as listeners. If they are going to go anywhere it's Capital as they hardly talk and play the same 15 songs back to back.

What about a Scott Mills student tour but at schools? For a month or so?

  5. Yet again Radio 1 have shot themselves in the foot. With the constant messy selection of old and new power intros played throughout the day with the 2014 package, this has now added further fuel to the fire. It sounds completely awful and yes, definitely like Kiss or Capital.
I cannot believe they have ditched the Wise Buddah theme for this tosh, especially as the BBC philharmonic orchestra helped to compose the theme. That branding was fine, it was at its best when it first started out in 2012.
Like many, I can't wonder how long Grimmy's got left. A part of me wishes he'd go now, if he's thinking he can match Moyles' 8 years he can think again, as Moyles is probably sitting at Radio X laughing his head off with Dom, discussing this on-air on early mornings!
"Youre listening to Grimmy, Grimmy, Grimmy." Yes we know.

Well, it's a cheap imaging, every apprentice could have done in 5 minutes. Maybe he wanted something new but the bosses know more about the Breakfastshaws future than we do...

  6. BBC Three have a youth panel, and I think Radio 1 do aswell. They help influence ideas and decisions about this kind of thing. I'm guessing all the celebrity shows help to boost listener figures and can be quite entertaining.
For example, when Dan & Phil started on Radio 1, they had a visual Christmas show, which turned into an annual Christmas show, which turned into a weekly show. It worked out incredibly well for them.

Well, personally, I don't like that celebrity stuff and I always switch to 1Xtra or use Spotify if an artist takeover or a Radio 1's Playlist is on

  7. Adele on Radio 1 is the one in my alarm clock.
Then, after school, Mills on Radio 1, of course!
Sometimes I stay for Greg or I listen to my playlist on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/user/julianbeuter/playlist/5W5orRttz5QVFJhzxAOuV6).
Annie Mac only on Friday night,
Saturday night Club Classics on Heart
And BFBS Germany all the rest of the weekend.
    Sunday night is Taggart night.
Then eat, sleep, Radio 1, repeat...
Only exception: every two months I'm on air at my local radio station (by the way next Friday from 7 pm on http://radiosauerland.de/ )
