Wow, Annie's just announced that she won't be there for three weeks and that the show will be taken over by some artists (Stefflon Don, Bastille and Blossoms), supported by R1 DJs: Dotty, Grimmy and Clara. Each of the duo (artist + DJ) will be taking over the whole week.
Should be interesting...I didn't hear the announcement go out on air, but I presume it coincides with Annie's summer AMP tour?

Side note - Adele obviously smashed her race, but Dev is a real wonder to me. Running only as far as 10k before and doing a marathon in a pretty decent time. He's a natural apparently!
I think Dev sells himself short a lot of the time. Examples include his 'ropey style of presenting', but if you listen closely enough, there is a method to his madness; he claimed he wasn't a good cook then reached the semi-finals of Celebrity MasterChef, and now completing the London Marathon in a fantastic time!

Scott getting jealous over Chris bonding with Mike Skinner off of The Streets at last night's gig on Annie Mac's show was hilarious today!
Chris: 'Music speaks to me. I know that's a weird thing to say.'
Scott: 'I speak to you for 3 hours a day, hun!'
Later on...
Chris: 'I'm finding more and more that major moments in my life happen when you're around, Annie.'
Scott: 'Has she allowed you to play Innuendo Bingo with Lauren Pope? No!
HAHAHAHA! I love these two!

I wonder what will happen to Chris on a Friday then?
The same as is happening with Nick, Clara and Greg - a day off!

Plus, tbh I found my enjoyment of Friday's podcasts has been ruined by Maya Jama, who (I may have mentioned once or twice) really irritates me.
I must have missed the part where you revealed your dislike of Maya Jama.

Omg yay I'll look forward to it. I'm a few days behind though, so I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to hear it But she IS the new Beccy, I'm telling you.
She is VERY good on yesterday's podcast. Scott does seem to be throwing over to his team for on-air responses more than what he used, which is definitely no bad thing at all!

LOVED the John Newman interview last week. Dick Steel, singing the EastEnders theme - amazing. Love that he seems to be a genuine fan of the show.
As you are a fan of Sophie on the show, OohErr, you're going to LOVE the podcast today!

Has anyone else noticed that full songs keep being left in Scott's podcast? I'm not sure whether it's on purpose or not, but it's happened several times recently.
I have also noticed this. It tends to be between 3pm-3:30pm that it happens, but I don't know if it's intentional.
-
Not a fan of Maya's?

Did anyone else hear yesterday's podcast when a guy called Lewis called up? (he was amazing, by the way!). He was on providing feedback on the show and suggested that Real or No Real should be brought back. It did sound like Scott and Chris weren't as keen which is a shame.

I've just had a thought, which will sound ridiculous, but it's so terrifying that Ben Cooper might just do it:
Charlie Sloth for breakfast.
Ohhhhh gosh! (I'll get my coat)

Roushan helps produce all of the weekend shows I think. Matts producer is good but not in the same league as Chris was unfortunately.
Chris is an excellent producer and I think he works really well with Greg. Saying that, I think he'd work well with anyone and really bring out the best in presenters (look at what he did with Scott and Matt).

Heard about half an hour of the new weekend breakfast so far - unsurprisingly A LOT of music, haven't heard a link longer than about a minute since I tuned in.
I've listened back on the iPlayer, I'm not sure whether they were having technical problems or whether this is the way things are now, but there were practically SEVEN in a row at the start of the show - they started with a short link over a ramp (instead of a jingle - weird, probably a mistake), then two songs, another ramp, another song, a trail, a song, another song, THEN the first proper link. Which was about two minutes long and was followed by three in a row. That's ridiculous. Why put two people on that show but give them less time to speak?
Also something potentially of interest, the producers have all shuffled - Matt's producer Will Wilkin has moved with him to 1-4, Luciano (former producer of Dev and Hirsty's Daily Dose on Capital Yorkshire) now produces Greatest Hits and Jenny Keo (former producer of Greg James and possibly Alice Levine) now produces weekend breakfast.
And a fun fact for you as well: this is both of their second radio marriages: Alice obvs started with Phil Taggart, and Dev started on 1Xtra with Reggie Yates (BEFORE Fearne and Reggie was a thing).
Jenny was Alice's producer before and also produced Greg's show post-Pippa and Travis and pre Grace and Chris Sawyer. I presume Roushan is still with Cel and Katie?

I couldn't think of anywhere else to put this so I'll leave it here: turns out the reason Chris Smith doesn't read the news on Fridays is because he steps up to editor instead.
A well deserved promotion!

The Radio 1 Academy returns this year, ahead of the Biggest Weekend with workshops, live music and industry insight among the events taking place. Matt and Nick will be hosting free sessions to inspire young people into creative careers. A 'School's Tour' is included too - offering every senior pupil in Swansea the chance to get involved. I imagine the DJs will take it in turns to present their shows from Swansea, as they have in previous years. There will also be collaborations with BBC Radio Cymru nearer to the Big Weekend which Huw will host.
It all kicks off on Tuesday 20th March.

Spotted this in the schedule: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09xjy9s
Have they recorded a separate podcast or is this just a "best of" of the normal podcast?
I'm not sure, but I hope it's 'late night' Scott & Chris. Similar to what we saw during the Lolathon last year. That was radio gold!

This saddens me slightly - it just doesn't deserve to have been on air for so long, it's not a good show. But well done to him I guess. I've been calling time on this incarnation of the breakfast show every year since about 2015, so god knows when it's gonna end.
This saddens me also. He clearly has a passion for radio, but that is not reflected in the show. Two, sometimes three installments of the Entertainment News, no real features except for a cheap version of Scott and Chris' 'Bangers' and something involving a heart monitor. Then you have Throwback Thursday/Nixtape which extends onto everyday during the summer/Christmas/January when you get the feeling the team can't be arsed.
Guests seem to be the same guests rotated and the interviews are barely 10 minutes long, padded out over 20 minutes with the inclusion of a few tracks in the middle.
One wonders whether his passion for radio has gone or his hands are being tied as to what he can do.

Embarassing that she didn't even know Scott was on Strictly. And also it annoys me how she was on the honesty game with Grimmy the other day (I didn't listen, but Jordan played a clip)
I think Maya might be the Radio 1 2018 equivalent of Fearne Cotton or Gemma Cairney, whereby she isn't in the loop with what her colleagues do outside of work. Remember that time Fearne came back from maternity leave and had no knowledge of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'? Gemma was the same, I think.
Also, appearing on different shows might be promotion for her Saturday show. She was also on Charlie Sloth's show one night last week.

I hope there's a co-host with her some time before then.
Don't say that! There probably will be, and I for one will not be listening!

Rita Ora, Camila Cabello, Stefflon Don, Mabel, Liam Payne, Sigrid, 30 Seconds To Mars, George Ezra and Sam Smith have been announced this morning as acts who are playing the Biggest Weekend.
No real surprise that Rita is performing again this year. She has been at every Big Weekend since 2012, with the exception of 2016.

Reason #375
If they have put this in because they need to play more songs, then it’s a bit rubbish as they used to play 5 or 6 songs on RONR anyway so they’re only really increasing the songs by 1 or 2 every day.
I am convinced that they cut songs short to squeeze more in (it happened with The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar so they could fit in Julia Michaels in before the 1530 news) due to one of two reasons:
A - They have been playing too many songs and overestimated the time needed.
B - They over-ran on the call with the listener around 1515 which wasn't really that long anyway because they interrupted it with a track, and needed to desperately squeeze in Julia Michaels.
It's more likely B, but wouldn't be surprised if it was A too.
-
Reason #374 why the last half hour of 'New tunes & Greatest Hits' on the show is a complete waste of time: of the seven songs played in that half hour today, six of those are usually heard on Radio 1 on a daily basis anyway!

It originally started about a year and a bit ago (maybe longer than that) after Greg spotted and started talking about it. It died down, but still mentioned sometimes and now Scott has picked up. I don't think it'll ever get old!
