  1. Did she actually think that now she was still even within a chance of hosting the RADIO 1 BREAKFAST SHOW!? maybe with someone else... But for someone who is now a mother and hene needs more time off why should she be hosting one of the most famous youth radio shows in the world! Sorry to be really mean but her show is heavily lacking in features and is basically just a playlist with her saying that was this and this is that, you're listening to radio 1... Best of luck to her but sorry... Really like grimmy but would think by the end of this year he will have finished as breakfast show host, thnk he would be better on drive time anyway.. INMHO sorryyy for the rant guys!

What makes you think he would be finished within the year?

  2. Perhaps this suggests that Alice Levine is the new stand-in for Matt Edmondson, now that Dev (who has stood-in for Matt for several weekends last year) is moving to weekend breakfast...

Pete Allison: Definitely will have something in the future. I'd like to think that Gemma Cairney is a short-term replacement for Dev. I'd rather her go back to BBC Radio 1Xtra! If she is lined up to replace Fearne Cotton in the future, over Alice Levine, I will be very disappointed in Ben Cooper.

Agreed. I guess Gemma must be an aquired taste, but I really cant see how they could ever let her on daytimes. She is like Jameela Jamil, utterly intolerable.

  3. Yeah, when reading the press release it does seem to be geared towards Gemma having the good news, being that the picture is just her and 90% of the article is about her. Have to feel a bit sorry for Dev :( I'm still reeling from shock that she has actaully been promoted. I'm sure she is a lovely girl but I just cant listen to her on the radio. Its too grating in the timeslot of 7-10am, let alone 4-6:30am!

Next thing we'll be reading an article about Jameela Jamil being promoted! (Actually lets not joke about these things, wouldn't be at all humorous...)

  4. I think they can control the wall lights at back of studio with that as well. The ones that give it that glowing appearance. Im sure I saw them explain on AAA last year and gave a demo but cant find it on youtube anywhere. I think it was Aled explaining how he sets the studio up before the surgery!

In summary, I think its mainly used to control the TV logo and atmosphere lighting.

  5. I imagine it is to do with payments and negociations with their agents to secure a contract for it. Its not like they pick someone out of thin air, they have set deputies for each show. It is just unfortunate the timing sometimes!

  6. Its a kind of side feature they do, when they mention something a bit nogastlic and not apparent in todays culture, the phrase comes from referencing an old age celebrity who is now a nobody, therefore "WHOOOO?!" Infact I was listening live when Chris first said "whoooo?" about somebody, which I think is where the feature was born from. There have been some brilliant who's!

  7. Also, it's hilarious that Jameela can't be trusted to do the most-listened to and most important Chart Show of the year by herself. Obviously, I'm not complaining- Jameela is insufferable by herself but the Update works well with Scott leading and Jameela doing the banter/chat bits. I think she knows herself that she really doesn't suit radio at all - she is truly awful. Wouldn't surprise me if she was binned early in the New Year and a competent and charismatic host took over. Matt Wilkinson wouldn't be a bad choice.

Insufferable is a brilliant word to describe the situation. Its actually quite painful to listen to the chart show, hense why I no longer do. Though she did rely to someone trolling her on twitter saying that she had added 200,000 listeners? If any of these new listeners are on Unofficial Mills, SHOW YOURSELVES! And she won a radio PERSONALITY award?!

So apparently she might be doing the right things but I am confused how?

Can someone explain to me please? Am I missing something?

  8. As of last week they were playing 1 christmas song a show, I havent listened this week yet but I think its 2 x a show? I think its the perfect increase really! You can never get bored of Fairytale of New York!

I think its quite a similar set up to last year really? Obviously they didnt start playing as early as Scott who did it in August last year I think.

  9. Please dont all hate me for saying this - I loved TOTDS and Beccy, but since the change in producers there is such a new energy and character about the show. Its so refreshing. I actually look forward to hearing the podcasts because its not the same ideas repeating themselves, its so current, dynamic and on the money day in day out. What does everyone else think?

  10. One thing I've noticed is that there's almost no sign of Nick Grimshaw for the whole festive period. All he gets is a 2 hour 'call or delete' highlights show at 10pm on christmas eve.Compare that with the 12 hour special Moyles always used to get on new years day and the boxing day and new years day breakfast show Grimmy had last christmas (pre-recorded of course). Is that a sign that the bosses aren't too happy with Grimmys performance I wonder?

Using your fantastic analytical skills you have failed to notice Greg James doesnt feature at all, pre-record or not. Are they not happy with him either? I think they are just opting to have less pre-record material, and Nick and Greg are off for the whole christmas period.

  11. See I like Big Things and it would be great to see them back, Call it Record of the Week though. However I'm pretty sure the DJ's didn't pick them. I remember Grimmy mentioning he didn't like the song that was being played at that time and then 2 weeks later, It's his Big Thing. Anyway just my opinion. All in all Big Things should come back!

Well Nick Grimshaw's opinion has been know to change regarding songs! And half on the fun is when a playlisted song starts playing and he just has the audacity to press what I call the thumbs down buzzer! Good on him!

As far as I can tell, I think the songs are partly chosen by the DJ. I think the Music Team at Radio 1 put forward some up and coming songs and then the DJs chose which one they want, with Nick having the first dibs. If someone is better informed then me then please do chip in and correct me. I'm fairly sure this is what happens though as Nick mentioned the process on-air once.
