  1. Personally, I dont think its juvinile, its just aimed at the 15-29 age group, a lot more then Chris Moyles was, hense why he lost so many listeners. Don't get me wrong I liked Chris Moyles, but his talk was in no way suited to youth radio.

He did actually explain the whole halloween fiasco, and I think it got a bit blown out of a proportion. He was told by his invited friend that he was allowed to come, so I dont think he "deiberately gatecrashed" as everyone is insituating. He was just mislead!

But also, with regards to "banning Robbie Williams", that is completely ridiculous. It is not his decision, it is that of the music team and playlist meeting who decide what to playlist for the shows. And they decided Candy was not appropriate for Radio 1. And he did actually play it on Monday, so saying that he personally has banned Robbie Williams is a silly statement.

I'm not trying to convert you to listen to his show, as it really isnt for everyone, but I just think the statements you made about him were pretty outlandish!

I agree with all the above.

I listen to Grimmy and I think he's very good. I still thinks he should edge towards a zoo format a bit more and chat to Fincham, Ian, Fiona & LMC a little more. I also think he's very good when he's discussing the menial things that happen in life e.g. his new dog. The guests largely depend on who they are even if he's trying hard a rubbish guest makes for a boring interview. There also seems to be a tendency to go completely overboard with whatever corporate crap they have to talk about. Teen Awards, James Bond, Twilight...

  2. I hope Edmondson is only covering Coxy's show while she covers Fearne and it isn't a permanent move. Surprised Phil Taggart isn't covering for Coxy.

Frankly I'm glad to see the back of Vernon and Reggie.

It's good to see some effort has been made to improve the disastrous weekends but both Gemma and Huw are still on so it's limited progress.

I look forward to hearing Dan + Phil but what is with R1 refusal to sign radio djs, there are some really good young djs on commercial radio but Cooper just seems to head to T4.

    R1 most recent signings:

    Dan + Phil (Youtube)

Phil Taggart (Introducing) Now seems to have dissappeared

    Jameela Jamil (T4)

    Gemma Cairney (1xtra)

    Tom Deacon (Comedian-arguably)

    Matt Edmondson (T4)

2 come from radio and they're both already at the BBC and can you see any of the above ever doing breakfast or even drive? I can't

  3. Which is making me think Huw may be Scott's replacement if he leaves that slot soon.. :(

I can't see that happenning to be honest, I think they use Huw as a utility man when Scott leaves they'll be looking for a new young DJ someone who can replace Grimmy or Greg in the future whether that be Gemma Cairney, Phil Taggart or a new signing. Huw is too old and if he gets the slot it will be as a placeholder. I think Scott will be there until his contracts up and some bright young thing will replace him.

Moyles was an anamoly doing 8 years on Breakfast most people manage 2 or 3 so Cooper needs new faces on daytime who could look at taking over breakfast. Grimmy could well take Greg or Scott's slot when he leaves Breakfast.

Sorry for veering dramatically off topic

  4. Oh I love the showbot, it's my favourite feature. I particularly liked it when it said Grimmy doesn't like pussy..........cats. I would have no problem if the wheel of four-tunes or waking up song went though. I like his handover chat/review with Fearne and I'm looking forward to it when Coxy does it as well also hopefully Annie will cover for Coxy because an Annie + Grimmy handover would be megalolz. But all in all I think he's doing a good job as gregjames94 said a little more Fincham, Ian and Fiona wouldn't go amiss they all seem quite funny. I do think Grimmy show will skew female quite a lot as the showbot alluded to "Do you think any men listen to you show grimy?".

I think R1 are doing quite well with music I was worried when the amount of songs on the playlist suddenly shrunk but they maintain a good range (A-listed this week: Disclosure, Jake Bugg, Jessie Ware and Rhianna) but they could do with a little less pop (Do we really need JLS, Rhianna, Little Mix, Maroon 5, Bieber, The Wanted, Olly Murs and Rita Ora on the playlist at the same time?) But it's a tricky balancing act.

  5. Vernon Kay has just tweeted.

"Vernon Kay's BBC radio1 listening figures go up in latest RAJAR results...Thanks for tuning in!!"

So Vernon is up I am not sure about numbers but dose anyone know about other show? Like Greg, Scott, Dev, Any radio show really?

Last Quarter Greg sent a smug message saying how he'd increased on Scott figures, his lack of a smug message this time around has led me to deduce his figures are bombing :)

  6. I've really enjoyed Grimmy's show! It hasn't been perfect and some of the features ought to go, I'm not mad on the Waking Up song or Four-Tunes but the rest is very good. He has a brilliant rapport with the guests. I'd like to hear more from Ian (who I seem to remember as being v.funny from Coxy's show), Fiona & Matt but at least they are on microphone now unlike the first show. All in all I think he's been really promising and I've enjoyed listening :)

  7. Just listened to the podcast and I wasn't mad on it, it needs less guests more banter with Nick and the team and his anecdotes and the Quiz! If you look at this week they could have scrapped all the 1D calls, Louis Smith & Bieber who were all quite dull. Emma Watson, Matt Smith, Example and Pro Green were all fairly interesting though but I suppose it's all subjective. Surprised Alicia Keys wasn't on it maybe she'll be on next weeks.

  8. RAJAR will give you any information about any time period in the day about any radio station if you pay for it. Its not RAJARS who gave that information out about the breakfast show, as Chris Moyles is so high profile (and also hated by many papers) thats just what they chose to report on.

Greg James said on his twitter that the ratings increased. I think they will continue to increase.

I also was dubious about him taking drive, but I think he's doing really well in it. Greg may have given interviews showing his passion and drive for the breakfast show, but that doesnt neccessarly mean you will get the job! They chose the right person. Definately.

I didn't know you got the full info if you paid for it, learn something new everyday.

But I stand my point, if you go on the RAJARS website you can click on the breakfast figures and see them easily and you can't see drive-time figures. Who subscribes to the RAJARS website, certainly no one on this website and if viewing figures do go down Greg isn't going to brag on twitter. So we'd really be none the wiser.

I'll admit I only hear bits of Greg as I don't make an effort to listen to him but from what I've he's improved but he IMO he isn't as good as Scott and doesn't appeal to the R1 target audience as well as Scott. I personally think Cooper is being exceptionally narrow minded in his belief that younger DJs equals younger listeners.

Finally, it's been commented on here and other sites that it seems like Greg is being/has been primed for breakfast and he's got the second best job at radio 1. If the Breakfast host goes, the prime candidate is the drive time host e.g. Moyles, Evans, admittedly that isn't a hard and fast rule (Dave Berry at Capital) but you're most likely candidate will be drive. Greg appears to tick all the boxes he's young, growing reputation (dating Ellie Goulding, appearing on BBC 3) and his figures are good yet they opted for Grimmy. What I was trying to illustrate by pointing out Greg was giving interviews about wanting the breakfast jobs, was that he was aware he was in prime position for breakfast and for some reason Cooper decided not to go for him. If his figures are rising then I'd speculate it's the wrong kind of listeners (i.e. Older listeners).

  9. He did something like 8 weeks on daytime this year, that's not enough to "get a bit more experience"?

I did say when they announced the changes (Feb/March) so I didn't know he was going to do all that covering. But your point is true doing all his cover means he's more known to the audience and has the same effect as putting him on Friday Afternoons would have.

  10. greg takes so many fridays off it's ridiculous, i think they should give danny howard friday and saturday from 4-7pm

When they first announced the Schedule Changes for Greg to take drive, I was furious but later I thought as a deal sweetner Scott should have kept drive on a Friday (Wonder Years, Ready For The Weekend). And put Greg on Chart (he already does the update) so he's still doing five shows a week. I'd have then bunged Grimmy on Friday Afternoon for a bit more experience on daytime.

My point was having a seperate DJ for drive on Friday isn't a bad idea, post 7PM the schedule is entirely different and Post 6PM it's pretty different. Doesn't make much of a change if Post 4PM is different as well.

  11. Remember everyone said Greg James would shed listeners in the 4-7 slot without Mills there, and look what happened, he actuallly increased them!

It's only been One Quarter and when the drop comes it won't be reported because Rajar only report to the public th Breakfast show.

I still think it's intriguing that Greg James wasn't given breakfast, He was moved to drive-time and even doing interviews expressing how Breakfast would be a dream for him and suddenly Grimmy got the job!

I personally wouldn't let Greg near breakfast (or drive) as I think he is bland, bland, bland but Cooper was happy to give him drive-time so my educated guess is that Greg's audiences' average age is pretty high [(despite being young his show hardly sounds young) (In all honesty I think Scott's show with Chris and innuendo bingo is more likely to appeal to young people)] so Cooper opted for Grimmy to take breakfast. Regardless of his motives I think he picked the better candidate.

  12. It's a weird one because Scott's show got better for a bit when he first moved and the unfortunately Beccy got sick. I'm a big fan of Beccy but only indifferent to Chris so I think the quality dropped for a bit. But it was better then if Beccy was ever off on drive-time.

However I think that Scott sounded awesome on breakfast the week post Edinburgh without Beccy (although Grimmy was practically a team member for that week).

I think it sounds a little more rigid to be honest and at times sounds more scripted (I'm thinking when Chris said should I go to Abbey Road and half an hour later he's there with somebody from Radio 1 there filming and for health and safety).

It's still my favourite show on Radio 1 by some distance though.

  13. Grimmy's show sounds good although I imagine he will have to refine his record of the week selections!

I don't consider Cheryl a big guest either although I've always had a soft spot for Emma Watson and Grimmy is a very good interviewer.

The audience interaction and participation has the potential to be a bit naff though. I suppose it depends how he does it.

I hope he does a Moyles style chat at the start of the show. Presumably it won't be half an hour but I don't think it sounds right when a breakfast show begins with two records like all the other shows on the station.

His team also sounds quite good, from reading various news pieces it sounds like they will be talking but not to the level on Moyles show. I imagine it will be like his show now or Coxy's which include the team much more than most but it isn't a zoo format which Cooper is so opposed to. He has Fincham, Ian (from Greg's show and previously Coxy's show when he was quite funny) and Fiona (who I don't know).

  14. Sorry for bumping my own thread but I found this in Scott's interview with Now

But Scott feels fine about Nick Grimshaw nabbing Chris Moyles' seat on the breakfast show.

'Out of all the new people on Radio 1, Nick's my favourite,' Scott, 38, tells Now's Dan Wootton.

'He really makes me laugh. I'll continue to fill in for him when he starts.'

As Scott doesn't cover Nick, I'm assuming he means he will cover Nick on breakfast? Anybody interpret it differetly?

  15. It was Grimmy + Annie's last show yesterday and it was very good. Although Grimmy mentioned that he would love Annie to be a regular guest on the breakfast show which I think would be really good.

Interestingly Annie said that she has no idea what is happening to this slot in the future and that the bosses haven't sorted it out as Rhys (head of progamming?) is ill and nothing has been sorted. Next week will be Grimmy on his own and the week after is unknown apparently! Although in our schedule changes thread it says it will be Annie on her own.... maybe no one has told her.
