  1. I think Grimmy is doing a good job considering he had to take over from Chris and that is a very tough act to follow. Also of the contendors for the slot: allegedly Fearne, Grimmy and Greg (Scott would be deemed too old) I think he is quite comfortably the best suited to it. I think Greg is a bit middle of the road and frankly dull for drive-time never mind breakfast.

Coxy is also doing a good job although it shows the value of a good production team that despite her fronting the morning show and sunday morning show. I much preferred Sunday mornings.

I also disagree with all these TV stars being signed up, I actually think that they might make quite good co-hosts but not sure if they're good enough on their own. I quite like Jameela and think she's funny but think she would sound better with someone else, her interactions with Scott are always good. However I think her being given the chart means the management don't really see her as daytime DJ (on weekdays). Both Reggie & JK & Joel ended up being trapped on the chart show, so haters of Jameela I don't think you should be too concerned.

Although someone like Matt (and Grimmy) who are from TV but do a good job. Personally I think Matt is a bit of an acquired taste and if he is going to end up on a bigger slot he needs someone to bounce off and interact with (possibly Chris Stark). A straight guy to his quirkier personality.

Dan + Phil are odd ones as there videos are funny and they're funny with Scott but I haven't really been mad on their show.

Huw and Gemma should both go from their slots. Huw should stick to night-time which he's excellent at day-time is really not his thing. It's all a bit forced and not very entertaining. Gemma is just irritating. I would be looking at student and commercial radio for new presenter rather than solely television which seems to be the new format.

Radio 1 was always going to have a tough time of it: When Scott leaves which I think is inevitable in a couple of years over a 5 year period some really big names will have left: Jo Whiley, Moyles, Coxy and Mills. Unfortunately at the moment the replacements (possibly bar Grimmy) are sub-standard.

  2. They often let Danny Howard do it on a Friday and whilst I'm no fan of him I think he'd be an improvement on Huw. Wish they'd give Dev a shot at it or preferably someone from commercial radio and give them a chance at R1 (Eoghan McDermott, Greg is a pale imitation of him)

  3. I enjoyed the show and thought there were some excellent performances from Ben Howard, Taylor Swift & Justin Timberlake. Pretty happy with the winners espiecally Ben Howard, Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean & The Black Keys. (Who couldn't even be bothered to do a video message!)

Grimmy's show was great, I really enjoyed it. It was nice to here Dev with Grimmy. Harry was good as well, chatting on a phone during Grimmy's link. Him and Nick are funny together. I wonder where Fincham had gone to for the first hour as Fiona told us he was here, it was odd. I like Fiona and Ian as well who sounded considerably better off than Nick. Good show though and it was nice to hear Tina and Nick together without any beef !

  4. I was a bit unconvinced by AAA this week. Don't radio 1 listeners get to vote for British Breakthrough Act at the Brits every year. Didn't really understand what it had to do with Access All Areas.

I am enjoying the tweets from the playlist meeting although directly tweeting the artists who are they snubbing seems a bit cruel!

  5. I really like the breakfast show, but I anticipated a bigger decrease actually for Nick Grimshaw! I thought the Moyles loyalists would have a bigger impact on fibures. I predict it'll rise next quarter for him. Radio 1 have lost 574,000 listeners and about 1% of audience share - what is going on!!

BlueSkies, where have you got that data from?

I think Nick should be pleased. If Quarter on Quarter the station has lost 574K listeners and he's only lost 40K listeners in his slot that is pretty good!

  6. Adam Catterall covered for Dev for a bit a year or two back but then disappeared despite being really good when covering Dev and he got unanimous praise on here and digital spy. His background was in commercial radio and he resigned from his breakfast slot in order to pursue his dream of working at Radio 1. However it didn't work out. What Abertom posted is from Adam's blog, he's just signed for Key in Manchester.

My guess is they didn't sign him as they deemed him, wrongly, too old.

  7. My fave is Grimmy on breakfast (sorry!) although I think it's a real shame that Moyles isn't around. Least Favourite is Mills leaving drive and his replacement being Greg James. I'd have been less upset if I rated his replacement because Scott got a fairly good deal by being able to stay on weekdays daytime.

  8. All of these new shows debut this week starting with Phil & Alice on Monday which sounds pretty promising from hearing them together on Friday.

Coxy starts her stint covering Fearne on Monday possibly the last we'll hear of her on Radio 1 :(

On Wednesday Scott takes over the Chart Update at 3.30 with Jameela Jamil co-hosting

On Saturday Matt Edmondson takes over from Vernon Kay in the mornings and takes over from Coxy on Sunday mornings, I know there are a lot of fans of him on here and he'll be doing a video every week.

Jameela takes over the chart on Sunday

And Dan + Phil take over the request show Sunday at 7 which will be fully visualised and I know there are fans of him on the site

So if you hear any of them put your comments about how amazing/appalling they are here

    :)

  9. I know what I am not looking forward to the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Huw Stephens.

It's usually Zane he might be on holiday or something but Huw on breakfast on the week most people go back to work/school isn't wise. I'd rather have had Phil Taggart on breakfast, it seems odd that they do this expert takeover every year but don't tend to publicise it much. However Phil Taggart & Annie Mac on daytime is a nice treat.

The schedule is so messy as well 27th -30th should all be the same DJs rather than having two seperate batches of schedules. (Apart from the Chart). Gemma even swaps from 10.00 to 7.00.

Why not have the same Christmas Eve and Boxing Day schedule even if some are prerecorded it just makes it more confusing.

Why Danny Howard is on so much is a mystery to me, this years Superstar DJ seemed to have more about her and has a personality.

Not too much Tom Deacon luckily and Dev on breakfast as well is nice.

And New Years Day- a day of Hackney Highlights- ouch

A couple of years back they DJs did their top 40 of the year that was a good listen, it would be nice for that to return,

  10. I can see another significant shuffle coming when Annie Mac has her baby. I think we're likely too see Toddla T (perhaps with Jaymo and Andy George covering him for a couple of weeks paternity) or Mistajam take over the Friday night show; triggering further shuffles to fill their slots. INDJWT Julio Bashmore is hot property now too, he may land a permanent slot if he can commit.

It's very interesting that the 10pm slot hasn't been filled yet. I was sure it would be on of Annie, Huw, or Phil. Despite me thinking that it won't work at all, I also think it's probably been offered to Moyles. If that's the case I expect Phil Taggart to take over Sunday Nights. Someone from the outside could come in though, I mentioned on another thread how Alex Baker might suit the 10pm slot weekday or sundays. I also wouldn't dismiss rumours of Ehogann Mcdermot switching from XFM, possibly with a view to move him daytimes in the future, he's great! Would be an ideal replacement for Scott when he gets "too old".

Both Alex and Eoghan would be fantastic signings for Radio 1, so they probably won't be signed
