Sad loss in a sense. I used to listen back 10-12 years ago when you genuinely couldn't expect to find any new hip-hop music unless you listened to his show. Of course nowadays it's so much easier to source music. Nonetheless, Westwood is such a personality I'm sure he'll be in demand whatever he does.

That whole 10-12-45 slot has been a complete void for me since Jo Whiley left anyway. At least Jo knew her music. It's cringeworthy at times hearing Fearne/Sara pretending they give a toss about whoever is performing in the Live Lounge.

is this a wind up or are you for real? Grimmy taking a sickie because of a football injury?
Doped up on painkillers after tearing ligaments by all accounts. Nasty.
-
More likely it's an excuse for him to stay out in Ibiza after his show the previous Friday!
-
Agree with that. I imagine Greg's big ambition is to host R1 Breakfast.
-
Yeh?! Many of the listeners are STILL in the 50+ bracket are they not? So... he is hardly a success.
I predict he will be replaced sooner than we think. Hopefully by someone who is a career DJ rather than getting by on celeb. connections.
Once R1 finally gets savvy, realises that people of all ages would like some new music, we may see some progress. Or, in other words, get back to the good times.
Actually, R1 are like a musical version of the current Government - arrogant, making decisions leading nowhere, and not having the grace / common sense to back-track.
Whether you like it or not, Radio 1 is funded on the basis that it provides for its target age group. That is the basis for its entire existence.

Younger audience and bigger audience are not the same thing. Grimmy has got a far younger audience than Moyles I'm sure. For what it's worth, Radio 1 is a public service broadcaster, not a commercial entity, so ratings aren't the be-all and end-all. Grimmy is doing a good job and I imagine the bosses at R1 are pretty pleased with how he's going at the moment.

Good on R1 - it really is a horrible and tasteless form of protest. If people really wanted a proper protest song, why not pick a rock/punk song from the 80s that was a directly influenced by Thatcher? As Ben Cooper says, this is essentially celebrating the death of someone who hasn't even been buried yet.

Nope !! I believe Lisa may be a former model. They let anybody into radio these days, and that is half the problem.
Lisa Snowdon started presenting on MTV more than a decade ago, and Dave Berry has plenty of radio and TV experience. I hardly think they're "just anybody".

I'm impressed Chris has kept churning them out as regularly as he has. Probably due a break!

Must say I do wonder where the ideas are going to come from now that TOTDS has gone - always got the impression he was the one driving things forward, so to speak.

Northern Ireland.

If they keep referring to it as Derry/Londonderry every time I may have to switch off. I know they're trying not to offend, but it was infuriating this morning.

Is Abertom actually Adam Catterall. I can't follow this.
No, abertom has just copied and pasted a section from Adam Catterall's website, hence the title of the thread.

I'm in at work at 8am on New Year's Day, so it's a quiet night in for me sadly.
-
I'd be surprised. I think Greg's show is normally the only live one on Xmas Day.

I'll let you know on December 22...

700 members. Wow

About time Vernon went in my opinion. Was very good at what he did five years ago, but I felt it had all gone a bit stale really.
-
Not sure how much truth there is in this. I thought Dave and Jayne were on fairly decent terms anyway, I seem to recall he helped her move house not that long ago.

That Radio Times link states Chris is the guest, not the host. Presumably he's on promoting Superstar.

I have been with R2's Zoe Ball this week. Evans has been off, and will be off next week... so for the moment, I haven't listened to ANY of Grimshaw. Should be trying him out for the first time week beginning 15th October.... I suspect I will have to attempt to have Evans grow on me though, or try out R4 even.
What happens on R4 at a breakfast time?
The Today programme, with John Humphrys.
For what it's worth, I only heard Monday and Tuesday's shows, but I thought Nick did well. The features and format of the show will obviously take time to settle - they'll figure out what works and what doesn't - but he is a natural presenter and his general chat and flow is very good I think.
-
I think they've made the right choice here. Grimmy has impressed me whoever's show he's been doing recently. Very easy-going and natural, more so than Greg, who I still think probably needs to nail down exactly what sort of radio show he wants to do.

Shame they're not continuing with having Zane do breakfast in first week of January. Always really enjoyed those shows.
