  1. I'd be gutted to lose Moyles from breakfast. The problem Radio 1 have with such a successful breakfast show is that if they leave him there, he will gradually become too old and fall further out of touch with the target audience, and if he goes, the show will lose huge numbers of listeners. But do we know for sure that a reshuffle is happening at all?

  2. ah anna lee? didn't she make '2 times' off of the 90's?

    What an irritating woman...

  3. I can't work out what is fact and what isn't with your posts.

Which Dom has their own show? Dom off of Dick and Dom, or Dom off of the Chris Moyles show?

I'm quite surprised Scott's not on the list for Christmas Eve, he normally does a weekday regardless of special days.

It's Dom off of Dick and Dom. Why don't Radio 1 value double acts anymore? I know the comparison is unfair, but Mark and Lard never presented without one another. Since they left it's been Colin or Edith, Fearne or Reggie. There's no consistency.

  4. I've been a massive fan of Radio 1 for about 4 or 5 years now, but this latest round of schedule changes has really turned me off unlike any others.

At face value, the change doesn't look that dramatic, but I think the whole tone of the station has shifted to make it sound more appealing to younger listeners. Nihal, Dick and Dom and Fearne and Reggie are just so CBBC. Apart from Sara Cox and Vernon on Saturdays the weekends are unlistenable for me. I thought I was starting to like Dick and Dom but there's just nothing to their show, and the amount they say 'mate' to each other and try to be spontaneous just isn't funny. I can't believe they're there at JK and Joel's expense.

I think the weekday lineup is sounding a bit stale too. Each of the daytime shows needs new ideas and something different to freshen them up - it's been exactly the same stuff for years now. Music-wise, there's too much emo stuff and too much obsession with a small number of bands (Foo Fighters for example).

    Anyone else agree with me?

  5. The real Christmas Day schedule...

4.00 Radio 1's Classic Essential Mix

    6.00 Greg James

10.00 The Chris Moyles Show Awards

    1.00 Kylie Minogue's Christmas Special

3.00 Radio 1: Established 1967 (highlights of the Legends shows)

9.00 Westwood's Best of In New Music We Trust

12.00 In New DJs We Trust

    Poor eh?

  6. The major worry for me is that if they want Radio 1 to appeal to younger audiences, and Moyles and Mills have statistics that prove the average listener is much older where does it leave these shows?

Won't they want to dumb it down to appeal more to the younger audience? More birthday corner and features like Celebrity Tarzan?

Like that Guardian article says, and like you pointed out earlier Jono, the weekends are aimed at the kiddies, while weekdays, especially Moyles, Whiley and the like, are going for the student and 20-something audience. I know Radio 1 is meant to be about variety, but surely the difference between shows from Jo Whiley and Nihal or Dick and Dom is a bit too marked?

  7. The Retro is a stupid idea and it sticks out like a sore thumb. JK and Joel weren't right for the Chart Show, but they deserved their place at Radio 1. The decision to get rid of them still really surprises me. For me, Scott Mills is the person to present the Chart Show. He's a proven hit with young and old audience alike, he knows the show inside out having covered it in its various guises, and he's got just the right mix of format and personality - why don't Radio 1 see this?

  8. I'm usually really up for giving new things a chance - I welcome change and I know that when you enjoy a schedule as much as I did with Radio 1 before, it takes a while to get used to a new one. Maybe I will just get used to it after a few weeks. But I just don't think these changes are the right way for Radio 1 to go. I think whereas before it sounded bang on and it gelled together perfectly, now it just sounds a bit amateurish and kiddy.

Regarding trying to attract a younger audience, it's obvious that 12-16 year olds want to be treated like grown ups, not patronised by initiatives such as Switch, which will also exclude the older listeners (when I say older I'm only talking 18 and 19). I know what the BBC are trying to do, but I somehow doubt it's going to work...

  9. It's nothing ground breaking that they're doing. We all know they've tried and tested so many different formats before, and they know you can't beat just doing the chart from 40 - 1. Unfortunate JK and Joel were given a poor format to work with.

Yeah it definately seems like they're going back to basics. 10 minutes in, and we're already on number 39. Fearne and Reggie have only spoken once.

  10. I think when he had the weekend 1-4 show in early 2004, a trucker phoned up and said 'alright treacle'. Thinking it was a bit gay for a truckie, he said it to all the rest of his callers for a while, and it sort of stuck. That's how I remember it anyway - sorry if I'm wrong!

  11. Hi all,

When Edith first flew solo on afternoons I really wasn't convinced. But just recently I find myself listening more and more and really enjoying her warm and chatty style. It certainly beats what's on elsewhere. Anyone agree that she's seen marked improvement?

  12. I don't think this new guy sounds very good. I liked the big husky voice of the bloke before. How long is it since Radio 1 changed their jingles? I know they've had new voices, but the whole package hasn't changed since the 'One Love, One Station, Radio 1' days, which must have been about 3 or 4 years ago now?

    Sorry to be anorakky!

  13. Yes! I love the ten-hour takeover!

Good selection of DJs too, but not sure that Annie Macs' show will be quite cheesy enough for my liking!

Doesn't look like Annie Mac's doing a show. The schedule for Bank Holiday Monday will be:

    7.00 Dick and Dom

    10.00 Chappers and Dave

    1.00 Edith Bowman

    4.00 JK and Joel

    Nice :)

  14. Any idea on Scott's figures Jono?

I wonder where Radio 1 is falling down, cos although Moyles has put on, it's lost about 300,000. Could it be the new specialist schedule, or perhaps Edith Bowman?

Any info would be cool. Btw, Christmas fortnight is not included in RAJAR, so the survery would have finished just before that.
