  1. Don't worry. Unfortunately, the last time I commented on a news story to point out how wrong it was I made it into the paper the next day. Bad times. A lot of poo is being written at the moment. Chris isn't going anywhere soon so there really isn't much point talking about who would take over when we do leave breakfast. It's not clear where Vernon's name has come from. Maybe something we're announcing on Monday might explain where the confusion has come from. (And no, it's not an announcement that anyone's leaving!!!!)

    RAJAR Q3 2009

Impossible to know. But I would argue the rise last quarter was the artificial one. This loss is right as it puts us level with last year. but we wouldn't know until you saw the trend.
  3. Thank you. Thinking of launching picture messages so that anything medical can be sent as a pic to Dr Mel. Whaddya think?
  4. Viv if it helps I can pm you the future topics so that you can get in there first!
  5. Plus check out the subtle but to me significant new name of the show: The Surgery with Aled yay!
  6. This Sunday the 27th it's an Open Surgery (you can call in with any problem), the 4th of October it's my (hugely personal and very important) Bullying special (or perhaps that should be anti-bullying) then on the 11th of October it's the next debate, this time one of the topics relates to testing on animals and whether it's needed in this day and age. Hope that helps x
  7. That's political though. Can only be done by journalists and we'll need someone on from the Government and probably the other political parties. Yawn.
  8. The NEXT debate is meatier. Not all future ones. Any suggestions that you'd like us to debate?
  9. But then, you ARE a difficult person to please...
  10. Viv. Just to clarify - the BBC Trust are a body that govern the BBC on behalf of the British public. They give licences to the BBC Radio stations. They decide on what the criteria is - we then fulfil those licences (even commercial radio have to do this but to a body called OFCOM). They have decided that we should cater a 15 - 30 age group. WE don't say you can't listen to us outside of these ages but we must show we're catering to this age group or I don't know what will happen. Maybe the bosses get sacked. Chris is brilliant at broadcasting ti a young audience 2.5 million teenagers or younger listen to us. 1/4 of 15-19 year olds listen to us. Chris' humour is also enjoyed by people of all ages - we don't want those people to stop listening, but for us to fulfil our remit we have to show that we are serving our core audience of 15-30. The BBC Trust produced a report saying that the way they want to measure that is by seeing Radio 1's average age go down in the next year. Problem is for every 40 or 50 year old that listens that will disproportionately drag the average up combating every 20 year old that tunes in. And there are A LOT more over 30s out there than there are under. That's why there's a big focus in the press about age. Hence why decisions about music that appeal to over 30 year olds will be taken very carefully.
  11. Just had my first sport interview on Radio! I asked him which football team was fittest!!!
  12. I'm ashamed to say it Jono, but No. If I was honest, the launch of the tour has now meant we are working all out to get it together, and I was using my time after my working day to record a Radio 1 DJ. I'm travelling to Cardiff for tonight's last show (spot the technical difficulties with the desk tonight) so won't get a chance That IS impressive.
  13. That's EXACTLY what happened! Sorry if you've covered this, but it'll take some concentration to get through 11 pages before replying to anything so I'll reply as I go along. C2 is the zone ('eck' is Welsh for C, and 'die' is welsh for 2) like Switch and is the young zone for BBC Radio Cymru. Magi Dodd is the presenter for 8 - 10 then different presenters for 10 - 11, and 11 - 1. I'm the show's showbiz correspondant from Wales on a Thursday night, and I have been for 7 years. Now that I'm hosting the show I needed someone to look for celebs and tell me who's where for me. I've asked this girl Elin to do this for me. She was struggling. I wouldn't dream of if! Only of the English songs London till last night, on the way to Cardiff for tonight. The text number or 'tecst' in Welsh (not proper use of word but I refuse to say a long Welsh word - or two in fact for "text") is 6 7 500. 5 is pimp, 100 is 'cant' so pimp-cant is 500 No of course not! I saw Jono's message on Twitter so I gave him a shout out and I merely said he runs UnofficialMills. Thank you! Thank you.
  14. Let me check that. I think it's one entry PER VENUE not at all. Let me check first though.
  15. I have to be so careful what I write here for fear it will look like it's a statement from the playlist - and none of this is, these are all my opinions, but a lot of what is being written here is just wrong and it's hard to watch it all said without defending it. All I'll say is that the premise of the article is wrong. Madonna hasn't been binned by Radio 1, it's coming back for discussion in this week's playlist. And Cool Sue, new music and new artists are two different things. No-one is against playlisting anything that resonates with our audience (and by that I mean ALL of it, not just the older audience). Beyonce and Sugababes definitely do that well. As for something being high on radio airplay isn't enough of a reason because a lot of commercial radio in the UK aims at an older audience than Radio 1 does e.g. Capital, Heart networks and Radio 2, so if they all played it (for their older audience) it will ride high on the airplay chart.
  16. That's a good question actually. I don't book the Doctors, I just kinda assumes he's been busy like Dr Dawn (who I love also). Dr Mel and I work very well together.
  17. Yes it is that Dr Jonty actually! He monitored me as I underwent the Alcohol experiment.
  18. Thanks Jono. I'll do my best. My fear for tackling these issues is that they'll be reluctant to give specific advise in case they give the wrong info. But as I say, I'll do my best.
  19. Hmmm. 4 days to cover the UK. Oh, and it'll be all registration online, and they will by far be the biggest venues we've ever played. Even bigger than Bristol.
  20. Viv, I think you're too close to Madonna to be able to rationally decide whether Celebration is a good Madonna song or not! I LOVE Madonna. I'm one of her biggest fans and now that Michael Jackson has passed away there is no-one that comes close to her for me. I agree though with the playlist's decision. She's a heritage artist who we should all respect but that doesn't mean she should get automatic rights to Radio 1 and it's playlist. If the young audience Radio 1 is supposed to serve don't care for a Madonna project then we shouldn't be putting it on. This is a greatest Hits album afterall, not a new album. When I DJ'd in Southampton at the Under 18's club I played Madonna's Hung Up. That was the only song that actually made the entire floor stop dancing. I had to cut it short and go on.
  21. Jono: I'd love to hear your thoughts for last year's show!
