    Ask Chris and Jordan

Capital Radio's breakfast presenters have been really chuffed with the lovely comments you've left about the programme, and they want to give something back. So next week they've offered to come on the forums and answer some of your questions. Get your thinking caps on and post your questions for Chris and Jordan here. And who knows, they might rope Sian into it too. They'll have the licence to answer what they want, and I'm sure you have plenty of questions!

  2. It’s not necessarily the fact that Jamie is posh. It’s that the show seems to be really keen to play on it. Within 10 minutes of their first show they were playing voice notes from his Celeb mates. Compare that to Vick and Jordan’s first week in September 2021; their first links were about Jordan’s awkward encounter with his plumber and Vick slapping a roast chicken. And then on Monday this week, Jamie is sulking (exaggerated sulking admittedly) about something, this ultimately being that another of his celeb mates has cancelled his appearance on their show, and they’re literally reading out texts such as ‘I’m sure this is going to be relatable to the entire population.’

  3. I hate reverse snobbery and I post this reluctantly as we shouldn't hold Jamie's background against him, but I do think many listeners will find it hard to identify with Jamie. One of the things that made Jordan so popular was he sounded like the mate you go for a pint with who always has a great story to tell.

  5. Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false. Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global? He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC. Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful? It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going. Roman and Jordan have the same management team. Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC. They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer. They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him. If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker. Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan. None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones. It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.

  6. Of all the times not mention capital it's probably now? Jordan is flying on breakfast with chris & sian and there's a presenter on friday and saturday that doesn't know who a main r1 artist, tldp are. Mentions capital which surely has to be a big no no given recent events and then says the licence fee goes to me. Talk about vom. We can't have it on here no more as it's that unlistenable and I'm about to switch back for m&m, but this is a Maya Jama x50 level mess of a show. Forget fading the microphone down, the entire show needs fading down

  9. What an intro! Interesting how they're starting with Nia Archives 'Baiana' (a song which has been out for a year or so). Does that mean they are bringing a new mix of older and newer tracks? And is the hottest record now at it's old time of 6.30?

  10. The point I was making is this is not content made for entertainment it was a product placement. There is a difference between the two. It not a fun idea that people have brought to air for a laugh. It was designed to look like mates having fun and come up with this idea but it was just a advert. That why I say it feel false.

  11. End of week one. It's a great show actually and whilst we'd probably like some more of "chaotic Jordan" it sounds close to flawless for a new show. I am sure it helps a lot that Jordan already knew Chris and Sian well. Capital must be delighted as I am sure Roman would have been there for as long as he wanted so it must be great to have such a smooth transition.

  12. Fantastic loving the new breakfast show so far! Jordan, Chris and Sian are really natural together, but I won’t always be able to listen to the full show. Are there any plans for a podcast/best bits of the breakfast show for those of us who have fomo please?

  13. Global IS an advertising business - the radio shows just fit around the commercials.

  14. It's more engaging than I imagined Capital breakfast to be. Like others said, I haven't heard Roman much to compare it. It sounds like Sian and Chris have more leadership on air.

    Greg James' apology

Clearly no offence was intended, Greg has apologised and learnt a lesson, that's the end of it as far as I am cocerned. I think on all these topics we need to distinguish between the behaviour of hate and poorly thought out comments. The first raises serious questions of what roles a person should be in and the second is a learning curve. We live in a more and more complex world and we could all fall foul of saying something stupid sometime without thinking.

  16. Undoutedly the show annoys the bigots who don't like them for what they are. However, I simply don't like the show as it feels poor quality and out of sync with the sound of the station.

    Radio 1 cinema advert

Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.

    Distracting DJs

Not sure what it really means, but Scott Mills is one of the least distracting DJs according to new research. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-13283609/Most-distracting-radio-podcast-hosts-driving-revealed-Mark-Wright-Chris-Evans-list.html It says Radio 1 though, which is not only inaccurate, but also I can only imagine it applying to his Radio 2 show. How many sounds effects did he used to play on Radio 1, ha.

    Jack Saunders' new show

I would rather do the new music show than the breakfast show early starts, being cheery and entertaining isn’t my vibe and being hip and on trend. With new music it’s a different kettle of fish that could get my teeth into and enjoy researching and planning of the show and coming up with ideas and making my mark in away that I don’t think I have the ideas for a breakfast. I don’t see how it could be alienating but I enjoy the niche and speciality of expertise that new music shows gives it’s good spot of giving you the headlines and setting the agenda of mainstream music.

  27. Jack excellent so far and this is what a Radio 1 new music show should be. But the 'falling down a well' echo repeating what Jack just said will hopefully just be a short-term thing - it's 15 minutes in and already starting to irritate me. Or should I say irritatemeRITTATEMErittateme Jack doesn't need a gimmick like that - he's excellent as he is.

  29. That or Connor Coates or Charlie Tee. If there is a specific designated live dance show across digital radio and BBC Sounds able to be plugged into cars, at home and in public spaces which are how Radio 1’s listeners mostly listen to the station live that isn’t a simulcast. The station could consider to not play many dance tracks in that morning slot to give distinctions between the two programmes. It would be interesting if this could also be the time where Charlie Hedges leaves Rickie and Melvin to become the DJ for this morning show with Rickie & Melvin for weekend afternoons and something different for mid-mornings all together on the flagship 1 station

  30. As per the exact same discussion on the DS forums... This decision makes sense as a limited change to counter the new Capital breakfast show, and aside from the poorly-judged risk he took with Danny his tenure as head of R1 has been good.

  31. I hate to be that guy but we all know the Greggs thing was pre arranged days if not weeks in advance? It wasn't a spare of the moment thing by Chris and the convo about it was pre panned and not in the moment thing. It was an ad deal. One big ad for Greggs which they paid Capital for. This is why radio should state Product Placement just like TV. Radio 1 can't do these things for a reason. For me this what makes the show sound fake because it's a false thing pretending it all happened over night. Greggs would have to order on extra stuff to make it happen. You can't do that in 24 hrs. There will be more of these deals. I bet there will be a few Gregg "surprise" things happen over time. Other brands as well.

  34. I listened back to this morning's show this afternoon, I thought it was sounding great. Things are naturally comfortable between Jordan, Chris and Sian. Funny features and links. The ads would probably start to grate after a while, but they weren't as jarring as I thought they would be, considering I've never listened to Capital for any lenght of time before really. I agree about the weird track edits - some of them sound really off. I do like that there's less dance music than R1 though, a good mix of older stuff too. I noticed they were chatting about young farmers and and Jordan and Chris both quipped that you don't have to be young to listen. Little dig at R1 I thought. I will probably be sticking with Greg for the most part, but it's nice to have a more than decent alternative on days where R1 has an all day danceathon or something else I'm not keen on happening. I hope Jordan does really well there after the way he was taken off his R1 show. He's sounding at home so it's a good start.

    Greg James' apology

I think my post said how it would be likely the end of it as Greg is concerned. its exactly right that we could a,, fall foul in saying something that once broadcasted that is received as socially unacceptable in regards of where a minority group in society is involved. With this Greg having made a one off error in lanaugage choice could involve himself in the conversation of learning what language should we used around disabling characteristics and other disability terms. In a moment of error like this when recognising the reception from public and apologising theres an opportunity where the person this case Greg James could use that error for something good.

  41. This. The show is poor quality and isn't getting any better. Danny feels very out of sync with anything at radio 1, including its own whatsapp number. That could maybe be forgiven if the show itself was good, but it's not. Dannys stories are cringe, the talking points are cringe and the refs to real world things are cringe. To think this used be katie's show, the quality level is through the floor. It's nothing to do with what they stand for like was said in this article and its really wrong if people say things like that. BUT... yes danny might get a text from a SCOUSE builder who likes them, but hello danny is... scouse ffs. I don't buy into the fact most listeners are buying into this show like danny leans towards in the article, it's mission 'i need to save this' They said I've been in the entertainment industry for 10 years and on gaydio (never heard them and I do dip in there) and I've a great cv. Well that's very nice, but what comes out of the speakers isn't entertaining, has been very out of touch, sometimes quite offensive and they're a poor quality presenter. I'm one person and to be asked to turn it off by various people all target audience but 2 of them, across different weeks who aren't usually offended by us having the radio on speaks volumes. Sorry but danny is definitely the novice they claim not to be and has lowered the quality

  42. I think had Danny been booked as a one off or co-host for only a weekends worth of shows it would’ve been fine. I can see how Aled would want to book them to show commitment to supporting queer and non-binary talent from the queer community and culture scene. But over the years of take-overs there are many good talented LGBTQ+ in the radio industry. Just want to politely remind that their pronouns are they/them.

  44. Jamie is definitely very divisive though. Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable". I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc. But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie. No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.

  45. See I don’t agree…I think the three way dynamic is not really working. Vick & Katie are really great together and I enjoy Vick & Jamie together. It’s something between Katie & Jamie that’s not gelling for me. However it’s early days and they are still much better than some other combos. Plus Matt & Jamie were radio comedy gold for me so I don’t think Jamie’s the problem. Just maybe didn’t need to be a three.

    BBC needs more Scott

There a reason commercial radio don't want the BBC to launch new stations. It would allow Radio 2 to split making a older station and develop the current Radio 2 more for our generation. It would make Radio 2 very appealing which is not what they want. I hope the BBC wins because we need more radio for us.
    1 point
  50. Got to wonder if the new Radio 1 station had existed sooner if Scott would have fronted it. It's an ambitious plan, at a time when I thought they'd be looking into closing stations, or not investing in DAB. I wonder if Radio 1 Relax will go? Anyway, it's good to see - and I realise it'll be a minor cost involved.
