Chris’s toilet set was packed
Chris returned from Ibiza able to report that the Wild Corner booking had been considerably more successful than he expected. He had imagined playing to a handful of people passing through the toilets, but the area became so busy that getting through the crowd to the booth itself took several minutes.
People who followed the show had deliberately come to see him, turning the joke booking into one of the strangest proper DJ sets he had ever done. Chris described it as one of the maddest experiences he had had behind the decks.
The success immediately produced further offers involving toilets, although Chris was less convinced he needed to make every future booking a bathroom residency.
Charlotte thought she had inherited Gary’s curse
Listener Charlotte from Cambridge rang because a series of mishaps had made her think she might be the unlucky person in her own friendship group.
She had lost her house keys for around a week and had to wait for her partner to get home each day before she could get in. The keys eventually turned up at her boyfriend’s sister’s house.
Then she smashed her phone screen twice in a matter of days. The first incident involved a baking accident at work; the second happened after a comedy show without Charlotte even knowing how the damage had occurred.
Her worst accident came while cycling. She looked down to adjust something on the bike, hit a parked Land Rover and went over the handlebars, breaking her cheekbone.
Gary had been catfished by himself
Charlotte said hearing about Unlucky Gary always made her feel better because at least somebody else seemed to attract the same sort of misfortune. Scott therefore called Gary and introduced the pair.
Gary’s latest problem was that somebody had taken one of his photographs and used it on a dating app under another name. More insultingly, the fake profile had aged him by several years.
Charlotte concluded that Gary might have passed the unlucky baton to her. Scott briefly suggested an app specifically for unlucky people to date one another, before deciding that putting two such people together might be a terrible idea.
