Scott’s surprise was ruined by an email
Chris was finally leaving for Ibiza. He had the black T-shirt expected of a dance DJ, his passport and very little else organised. He had even needed to go home to retrieve the passport and had not yet sorted any euros.
Then he noticed an email about transport in Ibiza asking whether he would be travelling in the same car as Scott.
That destroyed Scott’s intended surprise. He admitted he had woken up that morning, succumbed to fear of missing out and booked a flight. His plan had been to appear unexpectedly in the Wild Corner while Chris was playing.
Chris was delighted, although he immediately started treating Scott like part of his entourage and suggested he could carry the USB sticks.
The toilet booking was suddenly very real
The programme replayed the story of how Chris had ended up on the Ibiza weekend. What had begun as a joke about wanting a proper DJ opportunity had become a genuine set at Hï Ibiza’s Wild Corner, a fully equipped booth located in the club’s toilet area.
Scott still found the location hilarious, but Chris was beyond caring. He was about to play in Ibiza on the same weekend as some of the world’s biggest dance acts, and people going in and out of the main room would have to pass him.
The Pete Tong game returned for one final test before the flight, asking Scott and Chris to distinguish genuine dance acts from names invented by the team. Pete’s voice remained capable of making almost anything sound like a respected underground producer.
Radio 1’s Ibiza weekend began
The show spent much of Friday playing Ibiza favourites and looking ahead to the station’s broadcasts from Hï and Café Mambo. Another large guest was teased through a deliberately confusing phone game involving unlikely celebrity options before the weekend line-up was expanded again.
Chris then had to leave early enough to catch his flight and begin the journey from ordinary afternoon-show sidekick to DJ in one of Ibiza’s most unusual rooms.
