Chris was stuck in Barcelona
Scott started the week alone after Chris’s flight home from Barcelona was cancelled. Chris had been told there was no replacement flight until Tuesday evening, leaving Scott irritated both by the airline and, initially, by Chris’s apparent inability to get himself back to Radio 1.
Rather than write a straightforward complaint, Scott asked listeners to supply the most embarrassing lines possible for a strongly worded email that Chris would then be required to send.
The complaint established their daytime-radio hierarchy
The suggestions became increasingly grand. One listener proposed explaining Chris’s importance by writing that he and Scott were “the Eamonn and Ruth of the radio”, with Chris specifically cast as Ruth.
Scott read the finished letter to Chris in Barcelona and made him send it. Chris had little choice but to accept the humiliation if he wanted the airline complaint taken forward.
A butcher decided Bangers
Bangers returned with Reese, an 18-year-old butcher from Cambridge, as the day’s decider. Scott offered Eve’s “Who’s That Girl?” while Chris went for Fedde Le Grand and Ida Corr’s “Let Me Think About It”.
The butcher chose Chris, giving him the first point of the week.
Elsewhere, Scott questioned why One Direction’s seventh anniversary was being treated as a major event and heard from listeners celebrating similarly arbitrary milestones. The programme also found plenty of people preparing full Love Island final parties for that evening.
