29 December 2016: Scott and Chris become Robot Wars champions

The result can finally be revealed

The previous night’s Robot Wars episode ends with Scott and Chris as celebrity champions. Their team defeats machines operated by Jordan Stephens and Suzi Perry, vindicating the trip to Glasgow and explaining why they had struggled to discuss filming without revealing too much.

Scott controlled the weapon while Chris helped drive, supported by Dangerous Dave. Chris wants greater recognition for his contribution and the pair celebrate with the intensity of a football final, despite the earlier incident that required an apology and a JCB.

Breakfast clothes reach a new low

The victory is discussed while both presenters look as though they dressed in darkness. Scott’s jumper is inside out and Chris appears in an unexplained collection of tracksuit pieces and artificial fabrics that will look even worse when everybody else reaches the office at 10am.

They compare leaving the studio to a walk of shame and are relieved that radio hides the evidence. Scott promises to make more effort, while Chris maintains that showering should count even when the clothes placed over the clean body are indefensible.

New Year requires unwanted walking

Vanessa is travelling to the Brecon Beacons for a cottage holiday with her boyfriend and friends. The accommodation sounds pleasant, but the group expects a substantial walk every morning and she has no interest in climbing mountains for pleasure.

The compromise is the cost of spending New Year together. A listener edition of Real or No Real follows with Ace, who is preparing to launch his new weekend programme, while Scott and Chris continue speaking to people travelling, shopping and working through the holiday gap.
