20 May 2016: Lethal Bizzle tells Arsène Wenger to wake up

A message in Wobble

Lethal Bizzle brought Friday Breakfast the energy he normally reserved for later in the day. He said his live shows left his clothes completely drenched and made changing immediately afterwards essential.

His new single “Wobble” had been made with producer Distortion during a cold winter night in London, with both imagining the summer settings where it would eventually be played. The track also contained a message for Arsène Wenger. Bizzle stopped short of presenting it as a personal attack, but said the Arsenal manager needed to wake up.

Jake Bugg decides on a cover

Jake Bugg called from Exeter before his Academy guitar masterclass and Live Lounge. He planned to perform “Gimme the Love” but had not completely settled on the cover, eventually remembering that he was considering Dua Lipa’s “Be the One”.

Scott enjoyed how casually Jake made a decision that other artists might rehearse for weeks. Jake had only recently arrived from Oslo, yet everyone expected his relaxed approach and musicianship to carry him through. He would return to Exeter the following weekend for the Big Weekend main stage.

Film spies and pop gossip

Ali Plumb reported that Elton John would appear in the next Kingsman film alongside Taron Egerton and Channing Tatum. Scott questioned how Elton could be inconspicuous enough to play a spy, imagining the star attempting to deny his identity while sitting at a piano in an elaborate suit.

The Friday show also heard entertainment news from Steve Holden, including Courtney Cox appearing alongside Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and Craig David preparing to co-host Breakfast. Craig was already treating Radio 1 like a second home and promised that two hours on air would give him room to sing rather than rush through another short interview.
