23 February 2016: Scott and Chris walk Star Wars alpacas for Countryfile

Hollywood alpacas

Scott and Chris began the morning at Vauxhall City Farm, where Countryfile filmed them walking alpacas and grooming goats for a feature connected to their work with young farmers.

Chris expected Scott to struggle with the animals but watched him confidently lead two alpacas and talk closely to the goats. Chris arrived slightly late and found Scott already shovelling alpaca manure, an image neither had expected from the day.

The alpacas were experienced screen performers. Prosthetics had transformed them into camel-like animals for Star Wars, requiring four weeks of training and shaved legs and necks. Scott and Chris therefore treated their walking companions as genuine Hollywood talent.

Relationships with benefits

A friend whose partner worked in a restaurant received large discounts on food, prompting a conversation about the practical perks attached to relationships. Listeners reported cheap travel, flight upgrades, restaurant offers, free clothes and access to products from their partners’ jobs.

One anonymous student was dating somebody employed by a high-profile fashion figure. The clothes were not useful, but the employee supplied a weekly stream of confidential celebrity and office gossip. The caller admitted that the information was a considerable perk and agreed to return with future updates, although it was not the only reason for the relationship.

Chameleon Voices

Scott found a YouTube performer called Chameleon Voices, who demonstrated accents from around the world while standing in front of a map. Her work appeared useful to somebody whose own attempts at accents routinely collapsed into unrelated regions.

The show tested several impressions and considered learning from the videos, even though the channel was more demonstration than formal lesson. Alan Dedicoat then played Real or No Real, and preparations continued for the following night’s Brit Awards.
