Solo Easter eggs
Good Friday began with listeners eating Easter eggs alone while studying, travelling or enjoying a quiet afternoon. Scott regarded chocolate as naturally solitary because nobody normally sat down to share an egg.
Despite his supposed fame, he had not received any. His best hope was the supermarket aisle containing discounted broken eggs, which he considered perfectly acceptable presents for other people.
From a café to a castle
An anonymous listener emailed minutes before her first date. She had met a man twice in the same café, thought he was attractive and received his number when he came over to speak to her. They had arranged to walk around Elvaston Castle, even though the Good Friday rain had ruined the outdoor plan.
She had not dated for more than a year, had applied several layers of scented products and was visibly nervous. Scott supplied facts about the Gothic-revival castle, its white and grey ladies and its supposed hauntings, although Chris thought a castle placed considerable pressure on a first conversation.
The listener agreed to provide updates. If Scott rang while the man was beside her, she would disguise him as her father by answering, “Hello, Daddy”.
First Date News
The story rapidly consumed the programme. A listener offered to meet them in the car park with an umbrella, while others refused to leave their cars, enter meetings or visit relatives until they knew what had happened.
An email finally arrived through the castle’s Wi-Fi. The rain had kept the couple in their car, where Radio 1 was playing until she changed stations as Scott began discussing them. She said everything was going well.
Repeated calls then rang out, increasing the audience’s anxiety. On the third attempt she answered, used the agreed code and responded “I can’t hear you” to confirm the date was successful. Scott accepted that as sufficient evidence and reluctantly stopped interrupting.
Marcus Butler accepts
Scott’s campaign against uncredited YouTube games produced its first response. Marcus Butler acknowledged Innuendo Bingo as the show’s idea and agreed to attend the planned 16 April special.
Scott stressed that the invitation was friendly rather than a feud. He wanted Zoella, Joe Sugg and the other creators to experience the game at Radio 1, but was relieved that at least one chair would no longer be empty.
Good Friday’s Real or No Real
Danny Howard confirmed that B Traits really had arranged decks on a hospital-style table over her treadmill. Greg James supplied the authoritative voice for a holiday edition of Real or No Real.
Celine Dion’s Florida home did contain an enormous private water park. The Eiffel Tower originated in a design competition, while croquet disappeared from the Olympics after the 1900 event attracted only one spectator.
The programme ended without a full interview from the woman at the castle. Her short coded answer was enough for the day, with Scott promising another update after Easter.
