2 May 2007: Laura’s Commando Stunt and Chelsea Players’ Awkward Interview

Scott attempts to sell paparazzi photos of Laura to The Sun after she attends the Sony Radio Awards, then the show features a hilariously uncomfortable Chelsea Football Club interview where players struggle to admit another teammate is good-looking.

The show opens with Scott recounting his effort to generate publicity by convincing Laura to go commando to the Sony Radio Awards the previous night. When no papers picked up the story, Scott takes matters into his own hands and calls The Sun’s bizarre desk, speaking to a news editor about the photos he’s taken. The conversation with the Sun is painfully awkward as Scott tries to pitch the pictures, discussing payment and how much is visible, before being told to email them over.

Later, Gabby (calling in from Glasgow) finds herself trapped on a bus tour that’s been looping the same route for two hours. Scott suggests she visit Roots and Fruits, a fruit shop in the West End where Gabby used to work as manager. After some coaxing, Gabby actually asks the bus driver to stop there, and it turns out the driver knows the shop — apparently because Laura from Laura’s Diaries worked there too.

The highlight comes when Scott plays a viral video from Chelsea TV of players being asked who the best-looking player at Chelsea is. The footballers are visibly uncomfortable admitting another man might be attractive. Frank Lampard straightforwardly says Carla Fiddachini, but John Terry squirms through an embarrassing non-answer, eventually settling on Lampard himself while insisting it doesn’t mean anything. Joe Cole refuses to engage entirely. The segment brilliantly exposes the awkwardness around male vanity in professional football.
