30 January 2007: H from Steps’ Big Brother Reunion Bombshell and the Snake-Necked Jaguar Romance

H from Steps announces he’d now consider reforming the band after his Celebrity Big Brother experience, prompting Scott and the team to rally listeners against the idea—and later help a caller track down a mysterious Australian-costumed bloke she snogged in a Nottingham club.

The show opens with fallout from Celebrity Big Brother, where H revealed he’d be willing to reunite Steps after previously saying no. Scott’s horrified reaction sets the tone for the rest of the episode, with the team actively discouraging the reunion throughout. Caller Tom phones in with a firm “No” to Steps, though Scott pushes him to make a more emphatic statement.

The main feature involves Natasha, who emails the show about an embarrassing dating situation. After meeting a man in a club and spending a few weeks together, he vanished—only to resurface weeks later with a terrible breakup poem explaining he had a girlfriend and wouldn’t “connoodle with no other.” The poem is spectacularly bad, with clunky rhymes and random references to food they’d eaten together. Scott, producer Chris, and guest contributor write their own revenge poem and call the man (John) posing as “Wolfgang from Poetry Direct,” delivering a scathing response live on air that culminates with the revelation he’s being broadcast on Radio 1.

In the show’s extended feature, Scott helps caller Annabelle track down a man she met at Reflex nightclub in Nottingham while dressed as an Australian—complete with a large snake draped around his neck. She remembers his possible name is Mark or Matthew, that he works as a draftsman for Jaguar, drives a Jaguar, and lives in London, but little else. Scott highlights the absurdity that she can’t remember his name but remembers the car, and the team put out a call for listeners to help reunite them. The sketch includes discussion of whether the snake stayed on during their kiss.

The episode also includes Scott’s commentary on Russell Brand and his quick wit during Big Brother interviews, and a segment on Random Acts of Kindness nominations, where listeners can submit forms nominating people deserving of something special.
