4 April 2007: World’s Worst Quiz Contestants

Scott plays a selection of hilariously bad quiz answers from BBC local radio stations, including contestants who struggle with basic geography and completely misunderstand simple clues.

The show focuses on quiz clips from BBC local radio stations that have been sent in by listeners. Scott plays a quiz from Radio Stoke where contestants are asked which county suffers the most vehicle breakdowns — they’re given increasingly obvious clues but still can’t arrive at the answer, with Scott eventually having to tell them the result himself.

The highlight is a question from the Danny Kelly show on BBC Radio WM: “Where is the cornea?” Scott helps guide the contestant through a series of increasingly absurd clues, including references to darts and the bull’s eye, before finally getting them to identify it as being in the eye. The contestant’s confusion and the painfully slow process of elimination makes for comedy gold.

Scott also plays audio from Coronation Street regarding Tracy Barlow’s trial verdict, demonstrating how the show’s writers delivered the same dramatic line twice — once with a “not guilty” verdict and once with “guilty” — showing the dramatic tension of the episode.

The show also features the regular “innuendo bingo” feature, where listeners text in or email whenever a BBC Radio 1 DJ says something that sounds suggestive. Scott reads out contributions from various DJs and presenters, crediting Coxy for consistently delivering the filthiest examples, along with contributions from Colin Murray and others.
