8 November 2006: Screech from Saved by the Bell Visits

Dustin Diamond, best known as Samuel “Screech” Powers from the 1990s American teen sitcom Saved by the Bell, visits the show for his first trip to the UK — and the conversation quickly turns to an adult sex tape that’s emerged online featuring the actor and his friends.

Screech is in studio to promote his visit to Britain and chat about life after the show. He reveals the origins of the controversial tape: four years earlier, he and friends created a game they called “Pokemon” (not to be confused with the actual Pokémon) based around a poker game where participants would film evidence of romantic conquests and score points. What started as a joking premise between friends eventually led to actual recordings, one of which was leaked — allegedly by someone connected to a DJ known as Dave Pearce — and later released commercially under the title “Dustin Diamond: Dirty Sanchez.”

When asked about his time on Saved by the Bell, Screech discusses the cast dynamics with affection, noting that after 260 episodes over ten years, the relationships became familial rather than romantic. He reveals he strategically avoided dating his co-stars but “hooked up” with extras instead, since there were “30 different girls every single week.” He shares stories of unusual fan mail, including a girl requesting bodily fluids for a voodoo doll and another sending a dead spider. He mentions staying in touch with castmates, noting that Mario López (Slater) is now hosting a pet talent show on Animal Planet, while others have moved into dramatic television work. He’s currently filming a project called Outback Boy, in which he plays a scruffy mountain man, and declines an appearance on the charity show Celebrity Scissorhands because his character’s appearance would be compromised.

The show also features regular caller Lloyd, a precocious 10-year-old football fan, who asks Screech for dating advice, and Scott discussing the vandalism on his car that’s making it unsellable.
