New Radio 1 schedule from September 1

Radio 1 has unveiled a new schedule to take place from September 1, with Greg James given a new timeslot of 7am to 10.30am.

The move marks a return to a normal schedule after the coronavirus lockdown forced a number of DJs to alternate in daytime slots.

The change of breakfast show times means that other Radio 1 presenters will have shorter shows with Clara Amfo on 10.30am to 1pm, Scott and Chris airing 1pm to 3.30pm, and Nick Grimshaw 3.30pm to 6pm.

Radio 1’s Future Sounds will move forward to 6pm to 8pm, with Ricki, Melvin and Charlie presenting four nights a week from 8pm to 10pm.

A new show – Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders – will air Monday to Wednesday between 10pm and midnight, with Saunders continuing to host the Indie Show on Thursday at the same time.

Over the weekend, Matt and Mollie will still continue to present 7am to 10am with Radio 1 Anthems following for an hour. Jordan North is given a permanent weekend show on Friday to Sunday at 11am, and Dev is flying solo from 1pm.

On Friday Radio 1’s Party Anthems airs at 3pm before Scott Mills presents the chart show at 4pm. On Saturday and Sunday Dev will present until 4pm.

Radio 1 boss Aled Haydn Jones said the station was “evolving” with the new schedule.

He explained: “As a station it’s important we evolve along with the changing needs of our young listeners and I’m pleased to be able to introduce some important changes to the schedule with that in mind as we return to an on-air format that our listeners know and love. A new time slot for Radio 1 Breakfast means we can bring Greg’s trademark brand of light-hearted entertainment to as many young people as possible, while bringing our evening schedule an hour earlier means we can do even more to support new music and breaking new UK artists.”
