29 August 2006: Two Takeaways Prank

Scott’s classic two-restaurant confusion prank, where he calls one takeaway, takes their order, then connects them to a second restaurant on the line — resulting in complete chaos over an aromatic duck that nobody wants to cook.

Scott calls a Chinese takeaway to order a full meal: beef with black bean sauce, sweet and sour pork, egg fried rice, chicken fried rice, prawn crackers, and crispy aromatic duck. He then asks to put a friend on the phone to add more to the order. Unbeknownst to the first restaurant, Scott connects them to a completely different Chinese takeaway instead.

When the second restaurant repeats the order back to what they think is the customer, confusion immediately sets in over the “aromatic duck.” The second restaurant insists they don’t do aromatic duck — they do roast duck. The first restaurant (still on the line without realizing they’re talking to a different establishment) tries to explain they do aromatic duck, while the second restaurant becomes increasingly frustrated, suggesting the caller has phoned the wrong restaurant entirely.

The whole thing devolves into an absurd back-and-forth about what type of duck is available, with neither restaurant understanding they’re actually talking to each other rather than to a genuine customer. It’s the kind of simple but brilliantly executed prank that made Scott’s show a cult favorite — minimal setup, maximum awkwardness, and real confusion from the people involved.
