    The MailOnline have an article today claiming that the average age of listener at Radio 1 is still 32 despite the station making radical changes to lower the average age. Ben Cooper admits that it is concerning but essentially cannot "make people stop listening" This prompts the question of what more can be done to lower the average age?

    Let's just hope he's not tempted to replace Scott with one of the younger DJs.

    Perhaps this suggests that Alice Levine is the new stand-in for Matt Edmondson, now that Dev (who has stood-in for Matt for several weekends last year) is moving to weekend breakfast...

    Not necessarily.Devs on holiday himself that week so can't do it.Probably Dev will continue to sit in for Matt after he takes over weekend breakfast with Alice or Adele siting in for Dev

    All the best to Sara for the future at radio 2.It was a great send off .It would have been a shame if she hadn't been allowed to do an official last show and at least she doesn't have to fruitlessly hang about for months waiting for the phone to ring for her next bit of stand in duties.

    Incidentally her departure means that of the 12 DJs from the 1990s who were still on radio one when Ben Cooper took over as controller 2 years ago just 4 (Scott, Pete Tong,Annie Nightingale and Huw Stephens) are left.(and Huw could only be heard in Wales for the first few years). Sara joins Moyles, Westwood,Trevor Nelson, Judge Jules Fabio and Grooverider and Giles Peterson out the ageism door. How much longer can Scott hold on for I wonder?

    Gemma Cairney is sitting in for Fearne again from monday march 10 to wednesday march 12, pretty much confirming that now Coxys gone Gemma is the new official stand in for Fearne.

    Also Matt Edmondson is sitting in for Scott on tuesday march 11 for one day only and Pete Allison is doing Devs show for a 2nd week.Does that mean Devs last early show is friday feb 28? Seems wierd he would take at least 2 weeks off then come back for just 2 weeks

    Or perhaps give Gemma the early breakfast for a bit while they let Pete establish himself more, and then give Pete early breakfast?

    It would be nice if they let Pete do a prime time show for a change.Maybe he could sit in for Huw at weekends or something

    PS the other changes to the schedule that week include the all female line up on friday march 7 which is ..

    9-11pm B.Traits

    11pm-1am Heidi

    1-3am Essential Mix - Magda

    3-5am Annie Nightingale

    Good to see Alice on during the daytime again. Let's hope she becomes the full time cover for Fearne instead of Gemma Cairney eh !

    I'm surprised to see that Dev is taking a holiday when he only has a few weeks left on earlies but he does deserve a break. How much longer will Pete Allison be used before he gets his own show I wonder? Could the plan be to give Gemma a prime time slot in a year or 2 with Pete replacing her on earlies?

  11. Fearne Cotton rules out doing breakfast show

    It looks like Fearne may have been sounded out about replacing Grimmy on breakfast because she says in an interview that she doesn't want it.She says she's happy to do her 10am slot for the rest of her time on Radio 1-which could be many years by the sound of things! She also says that grimmy will be doing breakfast for 'a long time to come'.     So if Grimmys figures take a nose dive (which looks less likely after this weeks RAJARS), it looks like its between Greg James Matt Edmondson and maybe Dev to take over

    I think Grimmy's will be around 5.6 million, a small increase, but nothing substantial. The show does sound better, but it still lacks anything special, and is no comparison to Moyles. Radio 1 overall, again a small increase as this quarter usually does, but I think they will still not quite make the 11 million mark - perhaps 10.95?

    Grimmys audience in Q4 should certainly be higher than Q3 due to college and uni students going back after the summer hols.If not he's in big trouble.It'll probably still be less than 6 million though

  18. Has Fearne Cotton been suspended over jingle row?

    As you probably know Fearne failed to turn up for her show today and she'll be off tomorrow too.     Is it possible that Radio 1 have suspended her till the row dies down? Personally I think it would be a bit unfair as she was playing a jingle that's played by every DJ on the station.Maybe shes just off sick ,or maybe she's so stressed out by the fuss she thought it would be better to take a couple of days off. Anyway it was nice to hear Annie Mac back on daytime for the first time in months

    Another indication that Coxy might not be back is that Annie Mac is sitting in for Fearne today and tomorrow .I wonder what's wrong with Fearne.She certainly intended to be on today at the end of yesterdays show.     That indicates that Gemma will be the first choice stand in for Fearne from now on. We might not hear Sara Cox on radio 1 again I'm afraid.Still she had a good last year on the station and a new job on radio 2 so she can'rt complain
