  1. With the Chart Show and Dan & Phil's show, it seems the visualised content comes first, then radio afterwards.

I do get the feeling at the moment Radio 1 is trying to latch on to things that are supposedly cool: one direction, Dan & Phil etc. But I think Radio 1 are trying too hard to be cool.

Whatever happened to employing passionate radio people? I remember when Greg James started and you could tell how radio was the only thing he ever wanted to do, and how enthusiastic he was. You just don't seem to get that with any of the new signings anymore. Hopefully they might sign someone new from student radio soon.

You are too right sad that it is. I don't mind Dan and Phil but they should stay on Sunday where the format works. Someone did say that Dan and Phil would get Scott show. :( Radio 1 you are a radio station get presenters who are passionate about radio and muisc. More Zane, Huw, Greg, Scott, Matt, Sara, Phil and Alice. Less Tom, Gamma, Jameela, Dan and Phil. As for Nick on breakfast Mmmmm not sure. All in all weekday day time plus Zane and Phil and Alice are very good.

P.S. ryd2603; I think you maybe be on to something there....

  2. I agree with Merlin, I can really see Matt moving to weekdays in a few years time.

I'm pleased other people agree that there is nothing more harrowing then waking up at a weekend to the sound of Gemma Cairney. It just grates right through me. When either her or Rhianna from films is on Innuendo Bingo, I have to switch over!

And dont get me started on Jameela Jamil...

    I agree!

Just for the record it is NOT MERLIN it is Melvin, ;) Like Melvin off the KISS Breakfast show just better at Radio presenting then Melvin of Kiss...... HAHA!

  3. I am a big fan of Matt from when he as in for Sara on Sundays to his Wednesday night show and now on weekend. Huw is other show I like on weekends I know he not everyone cup of tea but he dose bring New/Live music to the weekends.

I can see Matt taking over from Scott in few years. I would like to see him sit in for Scott more then Huw who should sit in on Zane or Greg. I do like Dev's show and have listen a fair few times. I would say I can see him moving anytime soon.

I think that Weekday day time the line up is a good mixes! :) Weekend day time you have to alright shows "Matt and Huw" the rest are poor. :(

  4. "One week from today (Thursday) I’m taking on a massive Red Nose Day challenge - to raise as much as possible in just one single show. This money will be used to transform lives so we will need to smash it!Across three and half hours we’ll be joined by some amazing guests, the Radio 1 DJ family and of course you as we attempt a massive fundraising feat for charitable causes both here in the UK and abroad.

Joining us on the day will be: Jessie J, David Walliams, Little Mix, Conor Maynard, Rizzle Kicks, Union J, Louis Smith, Claudia Winkleman, Wretch 32"

So what dose everyone think? There are more gest to add, who do you think they will be? On the day there will be "tasks" for people to do any idea?

  5. So who watched the Brits? Headlines, Ben Howard got two awards British male solo artist and British breakthrough act voted by Radio 1 listener. Two awards for Emeli Sande and Capital Radio voted Adele - Skyfall as best single.

Post Brits, the Breakfast show is just weird Harry Styles is on and I get the feeling that some people have had too much to drink. This make for one ramdom show. Dev helped Grimmy up till 7 and Grimmy said tomorrow (Friday) he will sit in with Dev from 4 - 6.30 then Dev can stay till 10 and they will do a joint show.

If you have any other story that be great to hear them. :)

Grimmy just said when Mumford where playing he and Sara throw cakes at Capital Radio people.....

  6. Well Radio 1 have lots of options but I think it is that Huw is a safe pair of hand and remember Radio 1 don't tend to cover with DJ that would lined up to take over the show. I can see Huw going in to 7-9 weekdays when Zane goses. I am not saying Zane will go soon but he is 40 and is part of the Chris, Scott and Sara group.

  7. I am not sure why it is always Huw. I really like Huw on Radio 1 his music is what Radio 1 should be about. I don't see any reason why it could not be Dev or Matt who could sit it on Greg or Scott shows.

Another question why is Greg off again he is always missing odd days?

  8. Mmmm a mixed bag for Radio 1 looks bad but some good points. I have not look yet but how dose this look against others, the likes of "Crapital" and Kiss? Also do we know what the over all average age is I am gest it has drop below 30?

The problem with Radio 1 is that it is trying to be two different station. On the one hand Radio 1 "The station for 15 to 24 year old" In other words main stream, pop chart and celebrity. On the other hand Radio 1 "In new music we trust" where the listener can be any age because it all about the music.

I am not sure if you agree with me but it be nice to hear what you think.

  9. BFBS is an interesting place to go to after Radio 1. Although I assume that's because you don't like Global radio? Otherwise I'd suggest Capital, Kiss or Heart, main competitors surely.

I can quite openly say I would never listen to Grimmy or Fearne out of choice, they're awful, but Scott and Greg are great and I'm very glad Sara has got Fearne's slot while she is away. In terms of weekends, Matt Edmonson is very funny and has been deserving more than an hour for a while.

I don't know why the chart update can't be done by just Scott, Jameela came in half way through and added NOTHING, she was useless on it, however that's not to say she wasn't good on the main chart, despite having (at least sounded like) voicetracked 90% of the first two hours of her first show, was actually quite good, but she'll grow into it I'm sure, I think she sounds very commercial and lacks personality at time.

Dan + Phil were very good actually, they interacted well together and it all flowed well, and I was surprised they were driving the desk (even if they did share it), although I guess the new show came at the same time as the new studio training for the other presenters.

Never actually heard Phil and Alice, and don't really intend to any time soon since it's not a timeslot I like to listen to it,

You are right I am not a fan of Global. I don't like Ad's, I don't like the music playlist, I don't like the cheesy sound bite links and I don't like the DJ that sound the same, say the same thing at the same time each show. I have links with Heart and the DJ's I know say unless you are breakfast you do a link every 20min and watch tv the rest of the time. For me it is Radio1 then BFBS then Radio 4 or Radio 6 maybe Radio 2 and then local radio if I want a laugh.

Dan & Phil I am just not sure. It is a good idea is it going work in the long run, where they are going with the concept. I feel that it is a one off I can't see all Radio 1 going this way for all it's shows and I am not sure about Dan & Phil doing any other slot on the station.

  10. Did anyone else listen the two new shows on Sunday?

The Official Chart With Jameela Jamil so Radio 1 have turned it into a TV show! If they want to do that why don't they go the hole hog and put it on BBC Three and call it Top Of The Pops... Or even better get Reggie Yates back on who have great radio style and make me want to listen unlike Jameela who make me want to turn off and be sick.

Dan & Phil right where to start if you a radio nerd listen back on the Iplayer. I am not sure what think, the idea is where "the internet and radio collide" again Radio 1 is thinking it's a TV show. Even if the idea works I don't believe Dan & Phil will last. Sunday evening on Radio 1 has reached a new low! What is on other station at that time? I may listern to BFBS from now on.

  11. My thoughts are that the weekday lineup is so incredibly strong now, like the best radio 1 has been in ages. The combination of Grimmy, Coxy, Scott and Greg is aweome.....but I think weekends are absolutely dire.

I havent really heard much of Dan and Phil yet but im not holding out much hope! Huw is a good DJ but not suited to weekends and playlist music, I was convinced he would get the 10-midnight show. I find Gemma and Jameela quite painful to listen to and as much as I think Danny Howard is good, I think its too early to start raving at 4pm! I think Matt Edmondson might be alright, but its not difficult to come out winning amongst that selection!

I can see where you are coming from and it is up to you what you think. I agree with you about weekday day-time it strong, don't forget Dev. ;)

Phil and Alice I am really looking forward too, good luck to them.

As for weekend, I would not go as far as saying it is "absolutely dire." I am not a fan of Gemma or Jameela I just don't listen instead I go on the Iplayer. Huw is good at weekend bring abit of new music and live sessions to day time breaking the endless roundabout of the playlist. Danny is on early lucky it is not hard core dance, nice to hear remix's of playlist songs. (Something abit different.) :) Dan and Phil are YouTube star and that is where they should stay... There are lots of good radio DJ wanting jobs (Like me.. Haha) Radio 1 are still paying Chris Moyles. I loved Matt's wednesday night show he coverd Sara before so it should work.
