Why the 'away'?
-
The reason you never hear them banter with them at weekends is that the newsbeat output is shared with 1x. So both stations have to come in for the news at exactly the same time for the newsreader to start. That is why when their backtiming isnt very good you often hear about 1/2 of a song before its quickly faded out into the news jingle!
So in summary, Im sure they would like to banter with them, its just not possible.

You can really see the cost saving measures quite evidently. Some serious spreading of shows overnight at the weekend and by splitting Phil and Alice up must save a lot of money. I though Edith, Nihal and Rob Da Bank would be next to be cut, but I really think its such a shame to loose the review show. I am delighted that Aled is staying on the Surgery. I think it really takes real skill, talent, fantastic quick thinking and compassion to present that show, and its something that sounds fantastic with him presenting, and they are very lucky to have him. The Huw and Alice swap is a wholey logical one and one I think many of us predicted for ages. Hopefully it puts her in a better position to take over from Fearne who couldnt come across less interested being at work!
Moving Dan and Phil and the Surgery is quite a bizarre decision I think. Its when people are doing their homework and a very sensible time frame at the moment. Personally I think they should have left them where they were and put the new music show with Huw, Monday, tues and wed and the rock show on thurs. God knows why they are suddenly making such a huge thing of rock?! It has the same air of uneasiness as hearing Danny Howards show starting at 4pm!

I think that if they were to let Scott go now because of his age it would cause real uproar. You only have to look at the comments on anything Radio 1 post on Facebook to see the impact that Moyles leaving had on the station. I've been listening back to a lot of old Moyles podcasts recently and, towards the end, his output was very much out of target. He was referencing 80s radio, he had Roy Walker appearing on a daily basis (who wouldn't have even been on TV in the lifetime of many in the target audience) and Keith Chegwin was making regular appearances. I adored Moyles' show when it was on the radio but in terms of it appealing on Radio 1, it came to an end at the right time. Scott s nowhere near that yet. I think they'll let Scott's show come to a natural end, whenever that may be and whenever Scott wants it to be.
Very true!

Oh, that's for that.
So, would Chris be on the same as Scott- I would not have thought so.
Good grief no! (based on pure speculation)

Since were talking about zoo formats (and apparently Scott doesn't have one), I've always wondered why Cara or Chris Sawyer don't speak on air- I can understand why they wouldn't want to replace Beccy immediately, but after a year I thought Cara would've built up an on air presence. Maybe they wouldn't want two Chris' on the same show, but Sawyer seems to be quite funny, I'd like to hear more from both of them.
I just dont think they are "on-air" producers. Just because Beccy was, doesnt mean her replacement has to be. To be honest, not many producers are heard on air. And actually he does often ask Cara a question which she answers on air, she just doesnt contribute to conversations actively. Its not like she is as tight lipped as TOTDS! Also since Chris Stark got involved, they probably dont think it is neccessary.

THE LATEST FROM RADIO 2
Today's emails from Radio 2 to me are saying that Scott is brilliant for Eurovision and they like him. They all also state about Scott's Radio 1 contract and how they wouldn't really have him on Radio 2 until it had expired.
But none of them have said no to Scott on Radio 2 in future!
What/who are these emails from?

Cara, as a producer, is on a salary banding by the BBC.
As far as I am aware, from when they had AAA last year and he mentioned it, I think that Chris Stark is a "freelance co-contributer". I think he is technically self employed and the BBC must pay his agent an agreed fee. Much like the same set up Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave and Dom were on who werent BBC employees either.

The ? is whether Grimmy will be out again tomorrow or even the rest of the week.
The @R1Breakfast twitter account tweeted to say Nick will be returning tomorrow.

I have Scotts last drive time show if thats any help? Im sure there definately was a podcast for it.

I've always been of the viewpoint that Fearne isnt really passionate about radio that much and she's slinging her coat on as soon as the fader goes up for last record before newsbeat! You never hear her on any other shoes, such as real or no real with Scott. What really confirmed this fact for me was when she came back off maternity leave in Sept and was on Grimmy's breakfast show, and they played Get Lucky - Daft Punk and she said she hadnt heard it before!! I'm sorry, but what rock had she been living under all through summer?! Clearly doesnt listen to Radio 1 out of the office.
Re: Fearnes cover, I hope it becomes either Annie Mac or Alice Levine. They are so quality when they cover for her and such enjoyable listening.
-
I honestly dont think Scott is going to leave any time soon. Radio 1 is so age focussed but his show is just as applicable to 15-29 year olds as any of the other presenters, if not more so. Its very dynamic and very youthful.
-
Well done to him if this is actually true! Honestly don't think Greg would suit the slot, he's not quite there! Think Grimmy needs a bit of a change to his format but he is there!
Agree with this. Grimmy is naturally very good at just speaking. His links are very tight and good quality. He can make a story about taking puppy for a walk incredibly funny. He does need a new feature though....!
-
Good to hear that he's ok but it's a shame the glass didn't sever his vocal cords.
Innappropriate.
-
is this part of the all female line up .Must be some sort of emergency situation to let Jameela sit in for anyone !
Its the only explaination...!

Wow, seriously ? Great enthusiasm if true. Main thing I like about him is that he's so enthusiastic and is clearly so pleased to be there and just seems very grateful to have the job he has.
Definately. Its so clear to see.

I enjoy current Breakfast Show, but there's plenty of room for improvement. I think Grimmy's show needs less time given to corporate weekly plugs - Nick just doesn't have it in him to fake something he doesn't find interesting. Unlike Grimmy, Scott is really, really good at selling whichever (often dull) weekly thing R1 has him promo. Scott manages to pass for genuinely enthusiastic easily. Nick plows through mandatory content at a fast rate with no real interest (on the other hand, he's pretty amazing when he occasionally gets away with taking the mick out of the more ridiculous corporate plugs).
Nick's strengths are storytelling, interacting with others and generally flying without a script. He can make a great link out of anything game/quiz related. He makes anecdotes on taking his dog for a walk sound riveting. His show needs a lot less structure. Also his team, while mostly likable, doesn't have too great a track record with coming up with great features and show content at regular basis.
Personality wise, I think giving more room to Fiona was a very good move - she's a very fresh no-nonsense character and is a good balance to other three. Initially I thought Fincham was an excellent counterpart to Nick, but their bickering in the past month or two somehow bypassed friendly banter and headed for just plain being mean (well, mean from Matt's side and blasé from Nick's). I'm not sure Fincham can tell a line between humour and insults too well. Also, so not keen on Matt's blatant sexism which crops up way too often. Ian, while not as loud, is a good addition, shame he skips the first two hours of the show. I enjoy their transparency of the production though. Nick calls out his team on being too obvious while giving him cues and points out all the hick ups and fails in production, and team calls Nick out on being to hyper or chatty or unmanageable. They leave the curtain open to just the right degree.
Really havent noticed Matts apparent sexism or apparent meaness, (I think it is all tongue in cheek) but I agree with all the rest of what you are saying here, sums it up very well!
-
Well I think the Cara and Chris Sawyer will be doing a lot later hours then Scott and Chris Stark, so I'm not surprised he was leaving at 7pm.
On another feature on another show I think someone mentioned Chris Stark is usually in at 9am, "checking the social medias"!
-
Think Grimmy needs another chance as mentioned, definitely a new production team needed! If not would love him on drive, he was really great at it ages ago covering scott and then greg! Matt would be a great ultimate replacement for Scott. Love Alice Levine, don't see why her and Phil Taggart couldn't go together to Fearne's slot, (with a good production team that don't play loads of music and do nothing).
I think Grimmy has a brilliant production team. They are very good and engaging on air. I think the features do need a revamp though.
-
I think we can all agree on the person putting the least amount of effort in to their show is Fearne Cotton!! The daily mail always seem to picture her arriving at 9 and I think she grabs her coat at the last song into Newsbeat!
Just out of curiosity, how do people know that Scott arrives as 12 and leaves at 7? Is that just a guess at an 8 hour day? I love as much as the next person but I really dont imagine he is there until 7pm!
-
As far as I'm aware, Pippa is an acting up to the role of producer while Laura is on maternity leave. On Laura's last show she did say she planned to come back.
-
As of 2011, the BBC had 23,000 employees, which is why some common names like Chris Smith would have a number after them - bound to be lots of different Chris Smith's working for BBC.

I get the impression she was going to cover more but then either it was cancelled or fearne changed her annual leave? It seems it was a very sudden realisation that this was her last show!
Alice Levine's New Show
in BBC Radio 1

I think Aled and Beccy both work for the Impact and Development team in Radio 1 which organise the special projects like R1BW and AAA. Now that Aled has the Surgery and producing Alice's show now, I wonder how much work he is doing for I&D now or just mainly show production...
