  1. She is sitting in for Janice Long for a fortnight and she missed her own show this week presumably so she isn't overworked. Is this an omen of her departure, when you miss your one show on radio 1 to help out at radio 2 it looks like you might be heading over to radio 2.

Although if I remember correctly Whiley spent a long time covering at radio 2 before leaving.

However with Cooper's drive to lower the average age Sara's one show a week seems like an obvious casualty, someone who he can get rid of to use as an example that he is trying to drive down the average age. Moreover with the persistent rumors of Vernon Kay's departure maybe Moyles could do Weekend Mornings?

I hope Coxy leaving isn't the case she is one of my favourite DJs and one of two good shows at weekends imo, the other being Grimmy + Annie who obviously won't continue past September.

    Any thoughts on this...

  2. Think they moved him just for the sake of it.. Don't see how Mills can be bringing in that many older listeners..

I agree, I think his show actually sounds fairly young with features like innuendo bingo and a 25 year old co-host. Of course DJs in Fearne and Scott's slot are bound to bring in older listeners as lots of radio 1 listeners will be students at school or uni. I'm sure I read somewhere that when Greg (the youngest DJ) was doing the lunchtime slot he had the oldest average age of Moyles, Fearne, Greg and Mills.

  3. Wasn't there some talk about Vernon leaving in September? Maybe they try sliding Chris into weekend mornings to fill the slot, and dump Sara Cox on Sundays since it appears she's no longer a Radio 1 fill-in?

She still covers Fearne regularly, I can't see Coxy going yet. If Kay does leave I think Edmondson might get his slot.

Just a thought.... Well, actually the thoughts of others on twitter..... Would management really move someone as big as moyles to weekends, and leave scott where he is?! or could we be seeing more changes shortly? mills moved (again), with chris and team in the one to four slot? is this too mad?

Scott's got a three year contract on afternoons I think (although it could just be a 3 year contract at radio 1)

  4. Yep, At uni..

I think it's a good replacement perhaps a little too early maybe they should have let him have his 10 years.

It's bittersweet for Scott, Bitter as he didn't get the breakfast slot, I'd have put him on breakfast for 6 months minimum but sweet as he's got a 3 year contract on afternoons and Moyles in comparison has been treated badly as it looks like he'll end up with a weekend show. I fully expect Huw to replace Grimmy and Moyles to replace Huw.

I wonder when Cooper made this decision, it is bizzare to change drive and then get a new breakfast presenter six months later! I think it was rather out of the blue as I think he'd have kept afternoons open for Moyles and happily shunted Mills. But Mills is secure at one now (phew).

Grimmy needs to grow a thick skin because listeners will drop and he'll be criticised but I think he is a good choice. Finally Greg's multiple interviews saying how desperate he was for breakfast just make me laugh atm. He might still end up there if Grimmy is the fall guy, who ever replaced Moyles would struggle which is why I'd have let Mills ride the storm.

  5. I have a soft spot for her, she's improving all the time, some of her links are a little bit clunky still (she says lets play some music now about once every 20 minutes for example, which makes it seems like she is trying to shut herself up when she's actually quite funny)

I found her much better than Gemma as well.

  6. It all depends on whether Moyles want to stay, I doubt it personally but I would like him to personally I would have Scott on Breakfast for 6 months and Grimmy on Afternoons and then this would be the new permanent schedule...

    4.00-6.30 Dev

6.30-10.00 Nick Grimshaw + Annie Mac

    10.00-1.00 Fearne Cotton

    1.00-4.00 Chris Moyles

    4.00-7.00 Scott Mills

    7.00-9.00 Zane Lowe

    10.00-12.00 Huw Stevens

    Weekends

    7.00-10.00 Adam Catteral

    10.00-1.00 Coxy

    1.00-4.00 Greg James

    4.00-7.00 Danny Howard/Chart with Gemma

  7. I thought Cooper was a bit pathetic tbh

They asked him about Mills and James he said he thinks James 'represents the younger generation' and Scott's funny features and stories are best suited to afternoon.

    1. So what does he want from Drive stories which are not funny, if so James is a good choice

    2. The reason why they moved is because he thinks Mills is too old why not say that rather than the exscuse he thinks he is better on afternoons

    3. The assumption that James is for a 'younger generation' as he is younger baffles me. If you listen to Scott's show with features like Innuendo Bingo you realise his show is more silly, immature and young than Greg's

  8. I can empathize with her but I think that it is part of her job and she does not help her case by using the word 'bullying' inappropiately. It is TV critics jobs to judge her but then you can see some of the vile things posted on twitter or through forums. (not here!) So I can see both sides of the argument

  9. Reggie and Gemma are both horrendous, they are part of a really horrendous weekend line-up at the moment.

Weekends are at there worst since I started listening, I will listen to Coxy, Jameela & Huw at a push. Cairney is terrible, Ditto Vernon Kay and Danny Howards' dance anthems should be called Pop songs with a Dance remix.

  10. The new schedule has been in place for a few weeks now, what do you think of it?

    Just to get started:

I think Grimmy is excellent and V.funny he would have been a far better pick for Drive than Greg.

Greg is very boring and I think it would be an embarrasment if he got breakfast. Scott is infinitely better on drive than him.

Weekends are dire, Sara Cox apart, Huw is ill-suited to daytime IMO he's a very good radio presenter but best in the evenings. Gemma Cairney is extremely annoying, the tone of her voice and the content of her radio show. (I don't care about fashion!) She's not for me. Danny Howard seems like a very nice bloke but his dance anthems show consists of two hours of pop music with dance remixes (probably not his fault) and then 1 hour of proper dance. He seems to have no personality, charisma or features.

However Jameela Jamil has defied my expectations she is funny, has a good rapport with the callers and pleasant to listen to. Although she did do a bizzare link telling us about how a friend of hers had all her property stolen from her house which seemed like an odd thing to tell nation. Also Mills' show + Coxy are sounding excellent. Grimmy and Annie Mac evening show is also a firm favourite. I will be interested to hear Phil Taggart this weekend aswell from the very small amount I've heard of him he sounds good and he was nominated for a Sony this year. They should also make more use of Edmondson I think, he's a very witty man.

  11. Greg's show sounded better yesterday then it did Monday/Tuesday. The chart update heading up drive-time sounded really weird though.

I think the best part was that Greg tried out some new things, i.e the link with Grimmy (sounded like something straight out of Scott's show). Although he did rudely cut over Grimmy in the first link and I think the reason it was good was because he interacted with somebody else and it doesn't hurt it was the hilarious Grimmy. (Think he ought to have been given drive not Greg if they insisted on moving Scott)

Still Scott's shows into Greg really highlights the difference in quality.

NB: Will be interesting to see if Grimmy and Greg do a 4 o clock handover (like Huw and Scott did!!)

  12. There definitely used to be a Scot / Greg hand over... and he would pop into a feet up Friday... They would have discussed the swap in advance, and I think there was a point where it did stop...

"Up next, the *ALL NEW* Greg James Show" "WOOOOO" "Woo". Yeah, highly sarcastic.

He did handovers with Huw happily last week aswell...

  13. I thought he was very good today aswell, at least we still have the podcast.

    No crossover chat. :D

On the drive time show he always did a handover with Zane who was after his show but never did one with Greg who was before his show. (The common explanation for this is he is having a pre-show smoke)

Today he had a handover with Fearne (She did have presents for him and he has 15 mins to smoke a ciggarette whilst newsbeat is on) but he didn't bother with the post show handover with Greg :P which he would always do with Zane. Lol

  14. It's mocking the way that Chris speaks and how he starts tap end.

Whenever he is about to read an extract he would ask if they're keen and if they're ready..

Over time Beccy took to pre-empting this and saying Ready in Chris' voice

  15. My Predictions

    4.00- Adam Catteral

    6.30- Greg James

    10.00- Fearne Cotton

    1.00- Scott Mills

    4.00- Nick Grimshaw

    7.00- Zane Lowe

    9.00- Various

    10.00- Huw Stevens

    Weekend

7.00- Jameela Jamil & Matt Edmondson

    10.00- Dev

    1.00- Chris Moyles

    4.00- Danny Howard/ Gemma Cairney

  16. I have time for Jameela, she's yet to do a show to be fair.

Unlike Gemma who I just cannot warm to

Still fuming that Greg has been given Drive. What I struggle to comprehend is 1) the obsession with younger listeneres and 2) why they think younger DJs will inherently appeal to younger listeners? They might aswell put me on the radio I'm 16!

Also as a 16 year old my favourite shows are Scott Mills, Sara Cox, Grimmy + Annie Mac (Sunday Evenings), Jo Whiley (R2), Adam & Joe (6 Music). Not the youngest Djs it's quality of there broadcasts and if they can empathize and appeal to a young audience which is important not the thinly veiled ageism which seems to be rampant at Radio 1.

Also surprised that Adam Catteral has not been given a slot he'd be a damn lot better than Gemma (and Greg)

  17. I am very upset, Scott show is still great. If they had to get rid of him I would rather they brought Grimmy in at least he has a personality! Greg seems very nice and all but not interesting, there's nothing wrong with him he's just mediocrity personified. So unhappy about that. I hope they keep Beccy with him + TOTDS

Pleased that Tom Deacon has sodded off though and that Ediths' role is being winded down.

Not much of a fan of Gemma to be honest but I have time for Jameela Jamil I think she seems OK.

I think AG + Jaymo deserved a show not cover.

Just realised that Weekends are pretty poor: Not a fan of Gemma, loathe Vernon (Love Sara) and Huw as nice as he is isn't suited to daytime. I would personally have swapped him with Grimmy (& prefarbly then swap Grimmy and Greg).

Anyway actually quite upset to conclude.

P.S.- Can you imagine a Greg James podcast how boring! Hope Scotts' stays
