  1. I think the police should be allowed to basically machine gun down these selfish moronic f*ckwits.

Ahhh, you're a fan of the communist regimes of North Korea, China etc.? The police can't be trusted with batons let alone machine guns FGS, but if that's what it takes to bring down this Government, then I'm all for the police shooting down the selfish moronic f*uckwits that are Clegg and Cameron.

The economy is in a bad way, and like it or not, we are all having to face up to the countrys bank balance. Goods and services cost more. Insurance, housing, motoring, and basic living costs are all going up. For the majority of us, wages aren't really going up to reflect this increased cost in living, and taxes are going up anyway.

Wait a minute, I thought you were a communist..

While I understand that students should have to contribute to their own university education, their education is beneficial to everyone in society and the economy as a whole. Cutting university funding by up to 100% is just stupid. Completely stupid. Expecting students to pay up to £9000 a year for this education is just as ridiculous. Whether the economy is in a bad way or not, cutting funding for those who will pay a lot more than that funding is worth in tax contributions throughout their working life isn't fair. Expecting those students to pay 100% of the cost of that education because the Government can't be arsed to anymore certainly isn't fair. Restricting the life chances of the less fortunate and poorest certainly isn't fair. Cutting university funding by up to 100% this year and then having students make up the difference from 2 years time leaving universities with no funding whatsoever for the year inbetween is most certainly not fair. But then again, the Conservatives have never been about fairness. As Cameron admitted himself, he and Osborne are 'children of Thatcher'.

A good way of facing up to the country's bank balance would be to continue to invest for the immediate future so jobs are created in both the public and private sectors, and then once we have recovered begin to make the slight cuts that will half the deficit over the following few years.

Making drastic cuts like a madman with an axe does fuck all to help anyone. It means people lose their jobs, lose their incomes, take money from the Government in benefits, not give money to the Government in terms of taxes they're no longer paying due to not having an income, not spending money so that the Treasury then get less in VAT receipts etc etc.

Where Conservative-style cuts may mean you're spending less in many ways, we'll only end up spending a hell of a lot more when it comes to funding the bottomless pit (in the sense that there's no limit to how many people get benefits, all those who need it get everything they're entitled to) that are benefit claimants; while at the same time the Government is getting less and less in tax receipts which will leave the economy in a worse state like it or not!

Nobody has to be in education past high school, those who choose to go off into further education are there because they want to do it. We all have things in life we would like to do, but if its too expensive for us, generally we just have to accept it and either put it on the back burner till we have the money to do it, or forget about it altogether. Why the hell should students somehow be immune from this element of life?!

I assume you were of the generation who had their university education paid for in full through Government grants, right?

the banks are not in profit, only the ones that didn't receive a bail-out are.

I'm sure Northern Rock posted profits a while back.

as for violent protests not working etc, they do just ask Nelson Mandela :)

Sometimes violent protests are necessary, but only as a last resort. Nelson Mandela's imprisonment and the South African apartheid are examples of that.

This allows the police and the Government to take together measures against those that are demonstrating and the focus is on the violence not on the abusive increase of fees which will deter many students from going to university or pursuing further education. Sittings and demonstrations in college and universities always get hijack by political parties causing ideological divisions and ending solidarity for a common cause. This is the way injustice by governments was dealt with in the last century. The agencies of control are experts dealing with these situations because this is the way we have always responded to similar issues. Fighting weakens people’s power and makes them inefficient.

Explore what would happen if students, teachers and admin staff stay away from the university or colleges for indefinite period of time and universities became ghost buildings - What would the government do? And the police? they would be wondering what all these thousands of students were doing they could not get to you individually in your homes. What would happen if you did not read the newspapers or watch the television, how they will get to you when you close all the avenues of control.

This is the way to exercise your power. Remember the real power is inside you not outside you. What we call the power of the government, the power of police and other institutions is not power, it is force, manipulation and coercion. When you truly exercise your inner power you become strong - the agencies of control become weak. SOLIDARITY is unity - watch the students that try to wave the flags of their political parties - they are just trying to make a name for themselves and gain a little bit of power even when they are honest because they do not know better remember that one can also be honestly wrong.

Were you one of the guys handing out leaflets for the Socialist Workers Party? :P

On a more serious note, it seems that protests and riots are gonna become the norm throughout the life of this government. There was a riot in Lewisham earlier this week at the town hall during a meeting on council service and job cuts, and they'll be many more like this. This winter won't be too bad, but once the cuts really begin to bite we'll all really experience a winter of discontent this time next year. If this is what it takes to get our voices heard, even if the government continue to ignore us, then this is what needs to be done - although I can't condone any sort of violence against individuals (including the police) or personal property.

  3. I'm quite surprised at how the snow is being handled here in Leeds. At home in London we're all pussys *excuse my French* when it comes to bad weather :P Buses stop running, days off work and school, days of collaborative self-pity as we all complain and moan about how awful everything is etc. But in't North I was expecting everyone to battle on regardless of the amount of white stuff that covers the ground. Turns out that's not quite the case. Uni closed this afternoon after lectures were moreorless empty. Lecturers not prepared to take risks and cancelling lectures. No buses seem to be running down my road, streets empty etc etc. Turns out the people of Leeds are made of the same stuff as Londoners.

Normally I use snow days as an opportunity to roam around shops while it's all hassle-free and empty, even if its a nightmare to trek there and back, but these essays have got me locked indoors.

I'd imagine they'd still expect me to turn up at work bang ontime this evening even though it takes me about half an hour to walk up some very steep hills (who's idea was it to build a city on such a steep hill?!) wearing wafer thin uniform and shoes with zero grip :( The risks they expect me to take for £6 an hour..

  4. CITV in the early days. Art Attack, Finders Keepers, The Quick Trick Show, Finger Tips, Jungle Run, Exterminator, Pokemon etc etc. And of course SMTV Live! Those were the days.

CBBC as I got older. Short Change, Arthur - cant think of any others to name..

But the Disney Channel (Fillmore, Recess, That's So Raven, 8 Simple Rules, Daddio, House of Mouse, Home Improvement, The Proud Family, Teachers Pet, Teamo Supremo, Two of a Kind) ruled supreme alongside Nickelodeon (The Amanda Show, Kenan and Kel, Renford Rejects, Jimmy Neutron, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Blue Clues, As Told by Ginger, Cousin Skeeter, Hey Arnold, Moesha, My Parents are Aliens, The Nick Cannon Show, Noah Knows Best, Rugrats, Saved by the Bell, Tiana, Three Friends and Jerry, Tucker) in my childhood.

  5. I listened to a Podcast from Coxys last show in for scott a couple of weeks back and I heard someone say something like "will you do that on your sunday show" and she said "who knows if Ill be here" . Makes it sound like to me she was thinking about not coming in!

Haha! Well to be honest, whenever we (or me anyway) go out the night before work/school/college/uni, we all have a slight feeling that we might be left with no alternative but to call in sick the morning after.

  6. I just remembered that the Nations shows were moving to Sunday night into Monday morning midnight -2am. So now I am even more confused at Fabio & Grooverider moving into that 2-4am slot after the nations - talk about different ends of the genre line - cant wait to see how they fit together.

I think it was simply a matter of "oh no where should we put them - we need a 2 hour slot" "oh look we've got this 2 hour slot that will do for now until their contract runs out or listener figures drop!"

    :x

  7. Snow here in Leeds was pretty heavy early today. Me and all my flatmates had a huge snowfight out back. Exhausting, cold, energising, painful, frightening and hilarious!

  8. Max has the sack

Shame, wonder where she will go?

I was thinking this. She might not be to everyones liking but it's a shame she's on her way out. Really bad move by 1Xtra management. Galaxy, Kiss and Choice are the obvious places I'd imagine to see her pop up. The Choice schedule is looking really poor at the moment (another reason why 1Xtra needs to up its game) so I'd expect to see her there sometime soon. Not that she'd improve the station, but it wouldn't quite be downgrading it.

I've always thought of the 1Xtra management of being quite trigger happy when it comes to getting rid of people. Sarah Love, Jason & Iyare, the girl who did TXU (Charmaine something? :S), DJ B amongst many others. And now Ras Kwame who's been at the station since day 1, Rampage, Max (who it once seemed was set for big things on R1) and Seani B.

On a seperate note, I'd imagine Nick Bright will be covering for Twin B on the breakfast show with Ronnie Herel covering for Trevor Nelson. And there's no mention of who'll be replacing Nick Bright on early breakfast.

  9. ;385491']I think I'll wait until tomorrow to go onto the field and build a snowman.

    I don't care if I'm 17. I want to build one. :D

Snow is the reason' date=' if there ever was one, to be a child again. I remember last time there was a lot of snow in London and all the buses stopped running I decided to walk to town to [strike']loot shop and I passed a famous private school to see all the teachers building a HUGE snowman against the road. Biggest one I've ever seen. Ever. I'm 6ft 1 and it was at least another 6 or 7 inches taller than me at the point I saw it (and at this point it was only just taking shape). The base of it was like an iglo, filling recycling bins with snow and using the blocks as the foundations for the snowman. Needless to say it took over a week for it to melt. I took a picture, can't find it now though :(

  10. Three to 4 inches here in Leeds... Lovely crisp, bright sunny morning - if a little cold.

    This! :)

Came out of the club last night after only a few hours to see a thick blanket of snow covering everything. Then had to stagger home (lucky I wasn't drunk) before innocently strolling through a snowfight in a graveyard. An interesting night to say the least..

  11. Corrie and Emmerdale should be the best soaps to watch over Christmas.

No such thing as a good soap to watch over Christmas. Why would you wanna watch disaster, explosions, family fueds, murder and death etc etc over Christmas?

Looked at some of the TV listings for Christmas, and it does look much better! Soaps should be good. A new show from David Walliams and Matt Lucas, Rock 'n' Chips, Royle Family and a Cube Christmas Special.

Sadly David Walliams and Matt Lucas have passed their best. And a Cube Christmas Special? What's gonna make that show relevant to Christmas? Having the contestants wear tinsel and shitty jumpers maybe?

And they're just repeating 3 of the Top 10's from Christmas Eve.

Re: Christmas Eve.. surely the 'Festive Floor Fillers' will be a standard Floor Fillers with the word 'Festive' thrown in

I was thinking this. Unless Scott is expecting us to boogie down to the likes of Eartha Kitt and Band Aid (which, admittedly, can happen when there's alcohol involved but who's already hitting the drinks at 6pm on Christmas Eve? ;))

and of course some tram crash in Corrie.. which I didn't even know HAD a tram til I heard that.

Not been to Manchester then? Never noticed the tram crossing the bridge in the title credits to Corrie? :P

Royle Family - my arse etc...

Never seen the show but the clip of last years Christmas Special when they were all singing along to The One Show theme always cracks me up :D

  12. I kept my curtains open all night so I could keep an eye on whether it's been snowing if I wake up during the night. When I wkoe upa t about 11am it was coming down quite heavily but wasn't settling :(
