At 8:30, Scott introduced “a man whose name alone makes people stand up a little taller” — Jon Bon Jovi.
Early hour – breakfast chaos and tired commuters ☕🚗
Scott kicked off Tuesday’s show chatting with Tina Daheley about the dark mornings. “It’s pitch black when I leave the house. I don’t trust a day that starts in darkness,” he said. Tina agreed, “I had my headlights on at 5:50 a.m. – that’s not right.”
Listeners texted about struggling with post-clock-change fatigue. One said, “My dog thinks breakfast is at 4 a.m. now,” while another wrote, “I’ve already eaten lunch and it’s not even eight.” Scott replied, “We’re all jet-lagged without going anywhere.”
The quiz – celebrity confusion and dog chaos 🧩🐶
The Easiest Quiz on the Radio featured Martin from Fife, who described himself as “half-awake and fuelled by jam on toast.” When asked to name a celebrity with a first name beginning with “A,” he said “Alan Sugar or maybe Adele?” Scott joked, “That’s quite a spectrum, Martin.”
The final question was “What noise does a dog make?” to which Martin answered by barking loudly down the phone. Tina laughed, “That’s commitment!” Scott added, “The neighbours are gonna love that.”
Jon Bon Jovi joins the studio 🎸🔥
At 8:30, Scott introduced “a man whose name alone makes people stand up a little taller” — Jon Bon Jovi. He greeted the studio with, “Good morning, everybody!” Scott replied, “This feels surreal. Jon Bon Jovi on the Radio 2 breakfast show.”
Asked how he was feeling, Jon said, “I’m doing great. Happy to be here. London’s always been good to me.” Scott admitted, “We’re trying to act cool but we’ve all been singing your songs in the office.” Jon laughed: “You and everyone else for forty years!”
“It’s about gratitude” – Jon on music, recovery and family ❤️🔥
Scott asked about his documentary Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. Jon explained, “It’s not a vanity piece. It’s about gratitude – about looking back and saying, wow, we got to do all that.”
On recovering from vocal surgery, he said: “There was a time when I didn’t know if I’d ever sing again. You go from being on top of the world to silence. But I’m back. I worked hard for it.”
Scott asked if he ever gets tired of performing Livin’ on a Prayer. Jon laughed: “Never. That song’s bigger than me now. It belongs to everyone who’s ever screamed it at the top of their lungs.”
He talked about life offstage: “I’m a dad, a husband, a guy who takes the trash out. The rest is just rock and roll dressing.” Tina said it was “refreshing to hear humility from an actual icon.”
The hair question and 80s nostalgia 💇♂️🎶
Scott couldn’t resist asking about the legendary hair. Jon replied, “It had its own postal code back then.” He admitted he sometimes misses the 80s chaos: “It was loud, it was silly, and it was fun. You can’t overthink rock and roll.”
They played You Give Love a Bad Name, which filled the studio with sing-alongs. Jon smiled, “Still sounds alright, doesn’t it?” Scott added, “It’s perfect – it’s the sound of every pub on a Friday night.”
Wrapping up – gratitude and good vibes 🎧
Before leaving, Jon said, “Thanks for having me. You made my morning.” Scott told him, “This is one for the Radio 2 history books.” Jon replied, “I just like good people and good stories – and you’ve got both here.”
As the outro of Livin’ on a Prayer played, Scott said: “Jon Bon Jovi on a Tuesday morning. That’s what we call a good day.”
