27 October 2025: Chris McCausland on comedy, Strictly and seeing the funny side

"That’s what Mondays need – a bit less moaning and a bit more dancing."

Monday morning chaos ☕🎙️

Scott opened the new week full of energy, joking about the clocks changing and everyone feeling slightly off. “It feels like lunchtime but it’s 6:37 a.m.,” he said. Tina Daheley added, “I’ve had two breakfasts already.”

They discussed Halloween plans, with one listener texting that their child wanted to dress as “a sexy pumpkin.” Scott laughed: “That’s a sentence I never thought I’d read on the BBC.”

The quiz and accidental chaos 🧩

The Easiest Quiz on the Radio featured Andy from St Helens, who introduced himself as “the man who reversed into his own wheelie bin.” Asked to name something you’d find in a fridge, Andy said “a coat,” prompting Scott to shout, “A coat?! Who’s keeping outerwear in there?” The quiz descended into laughter, with Tina saying, “It’s Monday – give him a break!”

Chris McCausland joins the studio 🎤💃

At 8:30, Scott welcomed Chris McCausland, saying, “Former Strictly champion and one of our favourite guests – Chris is here!” Chris responded, “Champion! I’ll take that even if it’s not true.” Scott quickly corrected: “You’re right, you didn’t win, but you were robbed.”

They talked about Chris’s time on Strictly Come Dancing. He said, “I couldn’t see the judges’ faces, but I could feel the disappointment.” He added, “The worst bit was pretending to know which way I was facing.” Scott laughed, “You got a standing ovation every week – from me, anyway.”

Chris described training with professional dancer Jowita Przystał, saying, “She was so patient. She’d say, ‘Step left,’ and I’d say, ‘Which left?’” He joked that she used her “teacher voice” more than once.

Scott asked if he still dances at home. Chris replied, “Only when no one’s watching. My wife calls it swaying with purpose.”

Comedy and daily life 😂

Chris discussed touring his stand-up show Speaky Blinder, explaining: “It’s mostly about trying to make sense of everyday stuff when you can’t see what’s going on. Like self-checkouts – they’re my arch-nemesis.”

He said one audience member once tried to guide him back on stage during an encore and ended up walking him into a curtain. “The crowd thought it was part of the act,” he laughed.

Scott asked how he balances humour and frustration. Chris said, “You can either get angry about stuff or you can make people laugh about it. Laughter wins every time.”

Final minutes and sign-off 🎧

As the interview wrapped up, Scott thanked him for “starting the week with actual joy.” Chris replied, “That’s what Mondays need – a bit less moaning and a bit more dancing.”

Tina closed the segment saying, “We love him, we always do.” Scott agreed: “Chris McCausland – genuinely one of the funniest humans we know.”
