Tina Daheley (born 16 April 1979) is a familiar voice and face across BBC radio and television, known for her sharp journalism, calm delivery and natural on-air warmth. She has read the news for various BBC radio breakfast show presenters, and hosted a number of BBC News programmes on television.
Early Life and Education
Daheley grew up in Perivale, West London, in a Sikh, Punjabi, working-class family on a council estate. She has spoken often about how her upbringing shaped her worldview and ambition. She is one of three siblings, with an older sister and younger brother.
She studied at The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls in Ealing, before going on to Brunel University where she earned a degree in computer science. After that, she completed a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Leeds, setting her up for a career in broadcasting.
Broadcasting Career
Tina began her media journey behind the scenes, working in television production and taking early roles on shows like Space Cadets. She joined the BBC in 2007, marking the start of a steady rise across BBC TV and radio.

Her television work expanded too. Since 2016, she has been a relief presenter on BBC Breakfast and Victoria Derbyshire, and she later joined Crimewatch as one of its main presenters. She made her debut on the BBC News at Six in May 2018, and shortly after appeared on the BBC News at Ten and BBC Weekend News, marking her arrival as a trusted face of BBC News. In 2018, she also became the narrator, and later regular presenter, of Points of View.
BBC Radio 2 and Later Work
In January 2019, Daheley moved to BBC Radio 2 as the newsreader on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show, originally with Zoe Ball and currently with Scott Mills. As part of the programme she regularly joins wider conversations, adding insight and personality to the show’s big talking points. She has also been a relief presenter on the Jeremy Vine programme.
Her role in major political coverage grew too. She became part of the BBC’s Election Night team, reading top-of-the-hour news summaries. In June 2024, the BBC confirmed that she would be one of the presenters of the new one-hour BBC News at One from Salford, joining a rotating team that includes Anna Foster, Ben Brown, Nina Warhurst, Sally Nugent, Jon Kay and Reeta Chakrabarti.
Personal Life
Tina Daheley met her partner, Kane William-Smith, on holiday in Ibiza in 2012. The pair got engaged in January 2018 and have one child together. Despite her busy broadcasting schedule, she has often spoken about the importance of family and staying grounded.
