Unofficial Mills launches crowdfunder for server upgrades

Unofficial Mills, the UK’s biggest fan-run hub dedicated to Scott Mills and BBC radio, has launched a community fundraising appeal to help future-proof the long-running site.

Founded nearly two decades ago by Jono Read, Unofficial Mills has grown from a small fansite into a thriving home for radio news, nostalgia, and lively discussion. The site hosts the forums, chatroom, and an extensive Scott Mills archive that has become an essential resource for radio fans.

The site is stable and in no danger of going offline. However, with internet security becoming more important than ever, ongoing investment is essential to keep the platform safe, fast and future-proof. Planned upgrades include a server refresh to boost speed, improvements to mobile browsing, updates to the forum and shoutbox, and continued protection of the Scott Mills archive as traffic grows with Scott’s new breakfast chapter.

“It’s a passion project, but it does take time, energy and money. Every bit of support makes a genuine difference and helps keep the site independent, ad-light and fan-focused.”

Supporters are being invited to contribute through a “buy me a coffee” link, with all donations going directly towards hosting costs, technical upgrades and the continued preservation of the archive.

Fans who enjoy the site’s coverage, forum chat or deep-dive nostalgia into Scott’s broadcasting career are encouraged to donate if they can. Even small contributions help keep the community online and running smoothly.

“Unofficial Mills has always been powered by the people who love it,” Jono added. “I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who reads, chats, lurks and laughs along with us. This upgrade will help the site grow with Scott’s new chapter — and continue being a place fans can call home.”

You can donate through Ko-fi using a credit/debit card or Paypal here.
