8 September 2025: Cinema naps, spaghetti hoops & Tina’s boot-sale obsession

“I lasted twenty minutes into Oppenheimer. I woke up applauding the wrong film.” – Listener text
“I’m addicted to Facebook Marketplace. It’s digital car-boot therapy.” – Tina Daheley
“You’ve bleached your trousers? That’s not a vibe. That’s a cry for help.” – Scott Mills

Movie mayhem and multiplex snacks

Scott kicked off Wednesday’s show with a confession: he’d fallen asleep during a film the night before — twice. That unleashed a flood of listener stories about cinema naps, accidental applause, and snack smuggling. One listener admitted bringing Heinz spaghetti hoops into a screening, while another claimed to have eaten a full roast chicken during Avatar. Scott declared: “That’s not a cinema, that’s a Toby Carvery.”

Tina Daheley added that she can’t make it through any movie longer than 90 minutes without food: “If I’m not chewing, I’m leaving.” The debate over best cinema snacks got heated — Maltesers, Nachos, or Hoops — and Scott ended up launching a poll promising to crown the “Official Radio 2 Movie Snack of 2025.”

The Good Morning Minute

Listeners checking in included:

  • Patricia in Brighton, baking stress-relief sourdough at 3am.

  • Liam in Leeds, kicking off his delivery-van playlist with Tragedy by Steps.

  • Sue in Cornwall, still hunting for her missing house keys.

  • Jacob in Dundee, celebrating his first day as a paramedic.

  • And Faye in Basingstoke, dog-walking through the fog before school run duty.

Scott dubbed Sue “The Key Loser” and promised weekly check-ins until she finds them.

Pause for Thought – Reverend Kate Bottley

Kate’s mid-morning reflection tackled comparison culture. “Some people run, some people stroll – everyone still gets somewhere,” she said, comparing life to a park-run with snack breaks. Scott loved it: “I’m definitely the one with snacks.”

Quiz chaos

Pauline from Wolverhampton took on the Easiest Quiz on the Radio, instantly winning hearts with her motto: “Don’t rush me, I’m fragile.” She stumbled on the question “What is Simba?” but redeemed herself by naming the capital of France faster than anyone this month. Scott crowned her “the people’s champion” and gave her the week’s bragging rights.

Tina Daheley’s Marketplace mania

Mid-show, Tina admitted she’s “addicted to Facebook Marketplace”, describing it as “digital car-boot therapy”. She proudly revealed her latest find — a pair of 1970s wicker chairs for £12 — and challenged listeners to share their most chaotic purchases.
Highlights included:

  • A man who accidentally bought a life-size Shrek statue,

  • A woman who drove 80 miles for a “vintage mirror” that turned out to be Perspex,

  • And someone who traded a lawnmower for a saxophone “because it felt right.”

Scott was howling: “You’re all living in your own episodes of Bargain Hunt!”

Other highlights

  • The “Heinz Hoops or Nope” game returned, testing whether discontinued foods were real. (Spoiler: space ravioli was sadly not.)

  • Listener Craig in Swansea admitted he’d accidentally bleached his trousers and gone to work looking like a “reverse cow.” Scott replied: “That’s not a vibe. That’s a cry for help.”

  • Producer Emilio tried to explain Italian wedding bingo rules again — and still made no sense whatsoever.
