“Beautiful chaos — Westlife were boisterous, Reese Witherspoon was really famous, and La Voix… well, I love her.”
Early chaos – pants, presents and “Lady Marmalade” 🎁🎤
Scott began Friday’s show talking about his husband Sam’s birthday. “He knows exactly what he’s getting because he chose them and bought them himself,” Scott laughed. “A jacket, new pants, and a book — all lying around the house all week in plain sight.” Despite that, he wrapped them up anyway: “Now we have to go through this ridiculous charade… wrapping them even though they’ve been in full view.”
Listeners joined in: “Unwrapping is exciting,” said Paul, while Kath from Hitchin confessed she always guesses gifts by the shape. Scott summed it up: “It’s stupid, but it makes it official.”
Soon after, chaos broke out as Scott, Clare, and the team performed “Lady Marmalade.” Scott asked: “Is it Marmalade or Marmalard?” Clare replied, “In the song it’s Marmalade,” and they all launched into a full group singalong. “Christina, Pink, Maya, Lil’ Kim – we’re doing it all!” Scott shouted as they hit the final note.
The quiz – “Keep dancing!” and baby brain 🧩💫
Friday’s Easiest Quiz on the Radio featured Sophie from Ipswich, who admitted, “I once got approached to be on Naked Attraction.” She explained: “I thought if you got to be the selector, you didn’t have to get naked — turns out you do.”
Her quiz didn’t go to plan. Asked for Tess and Claudia’s Strictly Come Dancing catchphrase, she hesitated. “Keep… keep… dancing?” she said eventually. Scott teased: “You made her do all those keeps and then you buzzed her out!” Sophie replied, “I have a child!” and Scott laughed: “That’s the right decision, quiz – but harsh!”
Westlife return – stamps, tours and Ed Sheeran’s love 💌🎶
At 8am, Scott announced, “The boys are back – it’s Westlife!” Fans flooded in messages: “I’ve seen them 120 times!” said Jodie from Mid Wales, while another listener wrote, “I was at their first concert at three years old – and every one since.”
Westlife talked about being featured on new UK stamps. “We thought you still had to lick the back of them,” laughed Nicky Byrne. “They’re stickers now!” Kian added, “France has scratch and sniff stamps. I wonder what Westlife would smell of?” Shane Filan replied instantly: “Creed Aventus!”
They revealed plans for a Royal Albert Hall show with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: “We’ve never played there before – it’s a tick-the-box moment,” said Nicky. The band also announced that their new single “Chariot” was written with Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac and Johnny McDaid. “When we met Ed,” Kian said, “the first thing he said was, ‘Lads, what do you think of Chariot?’ He was buzzing.”
Scott played the song, with lyrics like “Swing me high and swing me low, until my chariot takes me home.” Listeners called it “a bop” and “an instant classic.”
La Voix storms in – from stools to Strictly 🌟💃
Midway through the interview, La Voix burst into the studio. “Hello my darlings!” she announced. Spotting the stools, she said, “Can you manage to get on those? You’re a bit older.” The Westlife lads laughed as Scott joked, “We feel more comfortable on stools.”
La Voix teased her Strictly Come Dancing appearance: “It’s Icons Week – I’m doing Cher. I’m moving more than Cher has in the last 40 years.” Scott reminded her she’d now broken his old record: “You got the lowest Week 4 score since me!” La Voix replied, “Thank you. Two? I mean really!”
They discussed her infamous “flying horse that never flew” and wig trouble. La Voix said, “Ponies are triggering now.” The studio howled with laughter.
Reese Witherspoon joins – chaos, charm and “Legally Blonde” redemption 🎬💗
At 8:30, Reese Witherspoon arrived. “Good morning! How are y’all?” she said warmly. Scott introduced her as “Hollywood legend and now novelist,” discussing her new thriller Gone Before Goodbye, co-written with Harlan Coben. Reese said: “I had this idea about a doctor who does private surgeries for rich people abroad. Then Harlan added the twists and turns – it just turned out great.”
The chat turned to her accidental Instagram Live. Reese laughed: “I turned it on inside my purse during a premiere! My son had to call my assistant to stop it. It was live for 35 minutes!” Scott and La Voix tried to start a live themselves, failing miserably: “Your Wi-Fi’s a little off – don’t put it back in your bag!”
Then came Scott’s confession: “Reese, I need to apologise. On The Weakest Link, I got this question wrong – what colour does Elle Woods wear?” Reese gasped: “You said green?!” Scott replied, “I panicked!” She teased: “What did you think I was in – Wicked?”
La Voix and Westlife couldn’t stop laughing as Reese declared, “I’m flabbergasted!”
They also talked Icons Week, with Reese saying she’d be “Dolly Parton or Stevie Nicks” if she were on Dancing with the Stars. When asked if she knew Flying Without Wings, she said, “I probably have – it was huge in the early 2000s, right?”
To end, Westlife performed it live in studio — or at least lip-synced energetically. Reese said: “It’s beautiful, and I heard you sing. It was gorgeous.”
Aftermath – total chaos, total joy 🎙️💫
As the dust settled, Scott sighed: “That was an hour.” Reese joked, “You’ve lost the dressing room.” La Voix added, “Stretch and hydrate.”
Scott closed the show laughing: “Beautiful chaos — Westlife were boisterous, Reese Witherspoon was really famous, and La Voix… well, I love her.”
Karen texted in: “Best show ever this morning. Great guests. All this reminds me of roller-skating in the early ’80s.”
