29 November 2006: Things to Do Before You Die

Scott presents his listeners’ bucket list ideas, ranging from the mundane to the absurd—including scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, an intimate night with Girls Aloud, and being shot out of a cannon.

The show opens with Scott’s “things to do before you die” feature, inspired by listener contributions. Scott shares his own five ambitions: scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, an intimate night with Girls Aloud, experiencing weightlessness, mud wrestling with Girls Aloud, and riding a winner in a horse race. His co-host counters with more adventurous goals including riding a killer whale, meeting Britney Spears and Cliff Richard, test-driving an expensive sports car while being chased by police, and visiting all UK racecourses. One listener’s standout ambition is being shot out of a cannon, which Scott humorously suggests should be last on the list “just in case it goes slightly wrong.”

The show features a phone-in guessing game with a listener named Jason, who submits a topless photo of himself. After several incorrect guesses—including cocktail barman, firefighter, and hairdresser—Jason reveals he’s a captain who looks after thoroughbred racehorses, breeding and exercising them for racing. The team quiz him about a recent football incident where he was sent off for abusive language toward a referee, resulting in a £33 fine (£15 for the sending off, £6 for sending off, £8 administration, and £8 for abusive gestures). Scott notes that Jason has only played three or four times this season but regularly receives disciplinary bans, averaging about ten weeks out per season.

There’s also a brief segment with Joan from The Cooks, who’s on tour. Joan discusses the band’s experience on the road, including toilet facilities without locks at various venues, and mentions that a chef prepared a BLT for the team.
