23 August 2006: Natalie’s Embarrassing Toilet Story

A listener called Natalie shares one of the most mortifying stories the show had heard in ages — involving an unfortunate bathroom situation at a new boyfriend’s house, a plastic bag, and a note left on the kitchen table.

After a successful night out, Natalie had met a boy she really liked and agreed to go back to his place. The next morning, needing to get ready for work at 10 a.m., she went to freshen up in the bathroom while he was still asleep. Disaster struck when she needed the toilet and found it wouldn’t flush — leaving her in a panic about how to handle the situation without waking him or embarrassing herself in front of someone she genuinely fancied. Unable to get the toilet to work, Natalie made the split-second decision to fish the evidence out, wrap it in tissue paper, and place it in a carrier bag she found in the corner of the bathroom. She then took the bag downstairs with her, but in her haste to leave — desperate to make a good impression despite the mishap — she left a sweet note on the kitchen table saying she’d had a great night and wanted to see him again, complete with her phone number. It wasn’t until she was halfway down the street that the awful realisation hit: she’d left the carrier bag sitting right next to the note on the kitchen table. By her own account, she ended up in tears on the street, unable to go back inside to retrieve it.
