20 October 2025 – Lewis Capaldi in the studio

Lewis Capaldi joined just after 8:30, immediately joking with Scott about their history.

Early hours and listener stories

The show opened with upbeat energy and plenty of listener chat. Scott celebrated Arsenal being top of the league, welcomed Sarah from Derbyshire on her longer commute, and shared texts from David in Guildford counting down to half-term. The “Talented Twos” topic began after Scott played a viral clip of a two-year-old snooker prodigy called Jude — listeners quickly sent in their own toddler tales, from one who recited the solar system to another who rented a film accidentally by remote control.

Monday motivation and the quiz

Scott kept spirits high with messages from tired commuters and teachers approaching the end of term. The first Easiest Quiz on the Radio of the week featured Gary from Coldstream, who jokingly aimed to win the toaster prize. Their exchange about whether a toe counts as a limb became the morning’s running joke, and Gary eventually scored five points. His song choice, “Eye of the Tiger,” sound-tracked a raucous sing-along that Scott called “a proper Monday anthem.”

Domestic dramas and mug memories

In the 8 a.m. hour, Scott and newsreader Steffan Powell discussed the weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing results before moving into an unexpectedly funny conversation about mug collections. Steffan admitted to hoarding cups from gigs, rugby matches and video-game launches, including a heat-sensitive Last of Us mug, while his partner Emma wanted them binned. The pair compared keepsakes, prompting listeners to text about their own novelty mugs. One message read, “I couldn’t part with my ‘I Love Tractors’ mug – I just take it to work.”

Diwali with Navin Kundra

Singer Navin Kundra joined the studio to mark Diwali. He brought samosas and jalebis, praised Scott’s sequined outfit and explained the festival’s meaning: the victory of light over darkness and the act of lighting divas as “a reminder that even the smallest flame makes a difference.” Scott thanked him for “the sparkle and the snacks,” before playing Robbie Williams and Teddy Swims to keep the celebratory mood.

Smart-speaker giveaway mayhem

The day’s biggest on-air moment came when Scott accidentally promised to give away dozens of smart speakers after discovering how many listeners still use traditional radios. Over the course of two songs, he turned into “the Oprah of Radio 2,” shouting, “You get a smart speaker!” to listeners from Halifax, Chelmsford, and Preston. The phone lines and WhatsApp flooded with requests until the segment over-ran into the travel news, leaving producer Ellie Brennan trying to restore order.

Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi joined just after 8:30, immediately joking with Scott about their history. He described his latest UK and Ireland tour as “the best one yet” and said he felt calmer after taking time off: “The whole camp’s relaxed – that’s what you need.”

They discussed his Glastonbury performance. Lewis said he’d cut back his between-song chatter to focus on vocals: “People still respond even when I’m not being silly – it’s nice to know the songs hold up.” Scott called the set “one of the festival’s real moments.”

On taking a break for health reasons, Lewis admitted he’d been anxious about losing momentum: “I thought if I stopped, I’d never get back on the train, but actually people cared more.” He praised younger artists for doing the same and said, “Sometimes you’ve just got to stop to remember why you’re doing it.”

Talk turned to his brother Aiden’s accidental fame after F1 commentator Martin Brundle mistook him for Lewis. “My ego deflated in real time,” he laughed. He also joked about being blanked by Brundle afterward: “Tried to high-five him – nothing!”

Finally, Scott and Lewis swapped Taylor Swift stories. Lewis said he’d once attended her 30th-birthday party with other artists, adding, “She’s lovely – very cordial.” They riffed about Swift’s future wedding, Lewis offering to supply fish from his dad’s shop. He confirmed he’s “always swiping” on dating apps but hopes the next album will be “happy stuff – non-stop happy.” The interview ended with Lewis choosing Susan Boyle’s “Wild Horses,” performed in tribute to his fellow Scot.

Closing half-hour

Scott rounded off the show with more birthday dedications, the Birthday Game featuring Melissa from Lincoln, and a dramatic spin that landed on Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love.” He highlighted uncredited vocalist Lorraine Crosby, saying, “Let’s give her the recognition she deserves.”

Gary Davies popped in near the end to tease his own smart-speaker giveaways and bantered with Scott about the morning’s chaos. The show closed with Robbie Williams’ “Let Me Entertain You”, a fitting anthem for a packed, funny and warm-hearted Monday edition of The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.
