  1. I think Grimmy's will be around 5.6 million, a small increase, but nothing substantial. The show does sound better, but it still lacks anything special, and is no comparison to Moyles. Radio 1 overall, again a small increase as this quarter usually does, but I think they will still not quite make the 11 million mark - perhaps 10.95?

  2. RAJAR's are out next week! (Thu 06 Feb). What do we think?

Last results were particularly bad, especially for Grimmy, but then Q3 is usually the worst one for the year, so I suppose an increase is expected. However, if Grimmy's do go down again and go under the 5.5 million mark, I can't see him on breakfast much longer.

Some figures to compare for next week:

    Last RAJAR's (Q3 2013):

    Station: 10.83 million

    Breakfast: 5.58 million

    Last year (Q4 2012):

    Station: 11.09 million

    Breakfast: 6.69 million

  3. From what I can gather, it is Gemma who has got the promotion here. Perhaps they're just moving Dev for now and then will introduce him to a new daytime weekly slot in a year or so? He deserves better then just two shows a week.

Disappointed it's Gemma taking over. Don't like her weekend breakfast show. Wanted Pete Allison to take over it. I'm just hoping this isn't a move to introduce Gemma into a weekday slot, then eventually have her replace Fearne.

  4. Was hoping for Pete Allison to take over early breakfast when Dev left that slot :(

Perhaps Dev is moving to 1Xtra then?

Matt Deegan who seems to be in the radio know (some might know his blog) has tweeted whether there is going to be some sort of Radio 1 announcement. Maybe there might be something then.

  5. I think Scott will remain where he is, although this time next year, I think the main discussion on here will be if Scott's contract will be renewed or not (and I have a horrible feeling it won't be), and then what will happen to Chris, whether he'll move to another show? Sidekick to Matt perhaps?

The next set of Rajar's will be crucial for Grimmy. If they go under that 5.5 million mark, I think he'll be off and Greg will take over breakfast, probably around April time, or September again. Probably expect a Grimmy and Greg swap like Sara and Chris was back in 2004. However, I'd hope that Greg would get breakfast and Moyles would fill the drivetime slot with Aled producing, but I doubt that will happen. Moyles back on drivetime would be brilliant though, and would help increase the listening figures again for the station as a whole, but with the whole age thing at Radio 1 now, I can't see Moyles returning unfortunately :(.

I think Dev will move from his slot soon. Perhaps a slot on 1Xtra and replace Trevor Nelson if he decided to leave? Or maybe back on weekend breakfast? Would love to see Pete Allison get a permanent slot, hopefully Early Breakfast. Think he's really good!

Fearne will stay where she is. Phil & Alice will remain, although I can see both of them (Alice especially) doing a lot more cover work next year. She'd be great as Fearne's replacement in a couple of years. Both are the biggest surprises of this year.

I really hope they sort weekends out! Gemma needs to go quickly, possibly replaced by Dev. Huw could do with going now too. I don't not like him, but I just find him a bit meh. Possibly replaced by Adele or Dev?

I can see Jameela leaving the chart within the year. She seems lovely, but a natural radio presenter she isn't! Perhaps move Grimmy from breakfast and put him on the chart instead?

Zane better stay! Hoping Annie Nightingale and Pete Tong can also avoid the 'get rid of older DJs' strategy. I think Sara and Edith will probably both leave, which will be a big shame. Always liked both of them, Sara in particular. I did hear a rumour that Sara could be introduced into the Radio 2 daytime lineup soon.

I did read the Ben Cooper had I think an 18 month plan or something from Moyles' departure? Something like that anyway. So that should be ending soon. I do wonder whether his plan all along has been to put Greg eventually on breakfast and let Grimmy deal with the loss in listeners that was always going to occur?

  6. I don't think Dan and Phil would ever get moved onto a weekday show. They are a one off show, like surgery. It just would not work, they could do weekdays afternoons, or even be on Saturdays instead of Dance Anthems- which I hate, radio 2 all the way on a Sat afternoon

I would hope you're right (not keen on Dan and Phil, not my thing. Seem to me like another way to only target 13 year old girls), but when Ben Cooper answered some questions early this year in the Access all Areas month, he was asked which new signings he was most pleased with, and Ben said Dan and Phil, so you never know, maybe the afternoon slot on weekends or even weekdays beckons. Hopefully not though.

  7. Really hope Alice get a permanent Show in the future what about Grimmy, Alice (after Fearne), Dev (after Scott), maybe Matt Edmonson?, then Phil at 10?

I'd probably say in another 5-6 years:

    04:00-06:30 Pete Allison

06:30-10:00 Greg James (with a proper team, zoo style format as Radio 1 will realise that this works better at breakfast. Greg, Laura, Pippa, Chris Smith and Tina could be a really good breakfast team)

    10:00-13:00 Alice Levine

13:00-16:00 Scott Mills (hopefully! But, failing that, Dev)

    16:00-19:00 Matt Edmondson

19:00-21:00 Zane Lowe (hopefully he can survive the 'get rid of older DJs' strategy as they'd be stupid to let him go)

    22:00-00:00 Phil Taggart

  8. Exactly, she's a natural. I can't believe she hadn't done any radio before R1. She's obviously a born broadcaster.

I cannot stand Gemma or Jameela. They reinforce the idea that Radio 1 is dumbing down and come across as airheads. At least Alice is intelligent and funny and seems to understand the medium. Gemma and Jameela are just awful, awful radio presenters. I wish they'd get rid of Gemma, put Dev on weekend breakfast and give Pete Allison early breakfast. Perhaps Adele Roberts for the chart ?

Completely agree. Would also like to see Dev moved from Early Breakfast, he definitely deserves a better slot by now. Pete Allison I also think is really good. Been listening to his cover work and I'm pretty sure he'll be somewhere on the line up pretty soon. Another natural broadcaster.

  9. I love her already. Don't get to listen to her and Phil's 10pm show much but whoever gave her the chance to cover Drive should be applauded. So much better than Huw Stephens. I could easily see her taking over mid-mornings from Fearne in the future.

Agreed, listening also. She's good. A natural on air. Hopefully bosses will realise her talent and when they need a replacement for Fearne they'll replace her with Alice, rather than Gemma or Jameela who I keep on trying to listen to, but their shows are just awful. Alice is very good in the evenings also with Phil. They are both BY FAR the best newer signings Radio 1 have had for a while.

  10. The figures are in,and it's more bad news for Grimmy and radio one .Grimmys audience has plummeted to just 5.5 million and radio 1 are down overall.Radio 2 have made big gains though http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/nick-grimshaw-loses-listeners-bbc-2485942

So Grimmy's figures are just above the low that Sara's were before Moyles replaced her. Some sites seem to be saying that they are the lowest figures in nearly 20 years (I'm guessing not taking into account Sara's low of 5.5 million???).

I know Radio 1 will be saying that it's the audience age that matters, not the figures, but surely they have to admit that they didn't want them this low? If this continues into next quarter, I can't see Grimmy doing Breakfast for much longer. Maybe Greg James had better start getting prepared for the flagship show.

  11. The time for forums for Radio 1 DJ's, and in my opinion the best times for Radio 1 in general was probably around the late 90's - 2007. The twitter generation do miss out on the community that a forum can offer though, on here I was talking to people on a regular basis from all over the country.

Been a big fan of Radio 1 since listening religiously from 2004, and I definitely agree with this. 2004 to around 2008 for me is definitely the time I remember as the golden years of Radio 1. Brilliant line up, fantastic and credible broadcasters, funny shows and shows with proper teams that Radio 1 seem to be getting rid of now. Such a shame at what Radio 1 has now become really... :(

  12. His contract ends in April 2015 I think? I'm pretty sure his contract was for three years when he first got moved to the afternoon slot. He has hinted before that he might leave Radio 1 when his contract ends. Hopefully though he'll stay for another few years. The show has been brilliant recently, and judging by the RAJAR's, listening figures have been increasing too. Out of all the shows, even though Scott is older his seems the most young and relevant really. His show is definitely the funniest out of the current lineup and the most engaging. Hopefully bosses will realise this and keep him on afternoons for at least another 5 years.

  13. Q3 RAJAR results are out next Thursday (24 Oct). What do we think Radio 1 will get?

Typically this is usually a bad quarter for Radio 1 with the summer holidays. And with the listening age now of Radio 1 being younger, surely this will have an even bigger hit than in previous years.

The figures were slightly up last quarter compared to Q1, however this time I think a decrease is definitely expected. Radio 1 as a whole I think will be under the 11 million mark, closer to 10 million. I think Breakfast will probably be down. Last quarter was 5.89 million. I think this will be down to around 5.5 million.

  14. I'm not sure it's a great idea. FYI, I ran the JK and Joel fansite between 2005 and 7.

I think the forum format is now coming to an end. You have seen the traffic fall on this forum. Chrismoyles.net is on life support. Its an outdated medium of communication now. Its a shame but thats the way it is. Twitter seems to have filled the gap quite effectively. This site is the best model of any and is now sadly past its peak because the way we communicate and share has changed substantially. You only need to look at the BBC Radio 1 page to see how little is posted now days; a new thread ever 5-7 days. In 2006/7 it would be around 3-4 a day.

Kind of agree. I think 5/6 years ago it would have been a brilliant idea, but Twitter is now taking over discussions. Also, I think the interest in Radio 1 has slightly diminished. People aren't as interested anymore, particularly after all the schedule changes, and the newer Radio 1 listeners that the station is trying to attract don't really use forums, instead again prefer Twitter.

However, if you do create the site, then good luck with it! I'd definitely browse it often. :)

  15. For those interested, you can view the planning application for Yalding House:

    http://idoxpa.westminster.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=MR7QY0RP01R00

Going to be retail on the ground floor then offices. The old studios are turning into a bike shed and showers. Also going to be an added roof extension.

You can also view the layout of what Yalding looked like when Radio 1 was there.

  16. Does anyone think that Huw Stephens is used a bit too much as a stand in for DJs during the week?.According to Digiguide he's on drivetime again from monday june 10 to fri june 14 while Gregs on holiday.I would like to hear more of Matt Edmondson or Phil Taggart or even Dan and Phil occassionally.Huws ok but it just seems to me that he's used a bit too much and it's stopping other DJs having a go .Anyone agree?

I completely agree. I don't mind Huw, but I do think that other DJ's need to be given a chance. I do wonder whether Huw will move to weekday daytime at some point in the future, hence why he is always on cover duty? I'd like to see Matt Edmondson, Dev, Phil, Alice and maybe even someone new entirely. Pete Allison was really good when he covered for Dev before Easter. When Dev eventually gets promoted from the early breakfast slot, hopefully someone like Pete will replace him in it

  17. I've been thinking about this since last thursdays RAJAR figures came out. They were far worse than expected, and I just wondered might they increase the chances of Moyles being brought back to a prime time s lot to maybe shore things up for a while. Not on breakfast of course, but maybe another prime daytime slot. His current contract expires in january so a new one would have to be agreed to do a new show. What do you all think? Should he come back or has his time on radio one come and gone? I'd love to see him back

There's no doubt he remains one of the biggest talents that the station has ever had, and it's a shame that he's doing nothing right now.

The problem is where would he go? He won't have Scott's slot as he has a contract in that for three years, and I definitely don't want to see Scott shifted from daytime. And then Greg has only done one year on drive time, and I can't see them wanting to move him as the point of swapping Scott and Greg was to get this new young audience, and changing Greg to elsewhere will look like they've failed in their achievements. Also, when Greg swapped with Scott, yes there was a slight dip in audience figures, but it seems to me that its since Grimmy has started on breakfast that the big decrease has happened.

Really, I think Chris should have gone straight to drive time once he finished on breakfast, but with the station wanting this new, young audience, I suppose that was never going to happen, as they'd already decided that the two main DJs at the stations were going to be Greg and Grimmy, getting rid of the Moyles and Mills era :(

The only chance I think we will see Chris return is if Ben decides or even Grimmy decides that after a year to leave breakfast, thus Greg will most likely takeover breakfast, leaving drive time open to Moyles perhaps. However, I think if that scenario did happen, Matt Edmondson would probably take drive time.

I'd LOVE to see Moyles back, and I was hoping that by last April we would have seen his return to the station in some way, but I think that bringing Moyles back would be like Ben Cooper admitting he made a mistake.
