Ellie Brennan is best known for delivering the travel news on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills Breakfast Show. With her warm voice, sharp timing and upbeat personality, she has quickly become one of the most recognisable new voices across the BBC. Before joining Radio 2, Ellie presented travel updates on BBC Radio 5 Live and co-hosted the Viking FM Breakfast Show. As well as appearing on Scott Mills’ show she also gives travel updates on Vernon Kay’s mid-morning programme.
Ellie Brennan’s early life and education
32-year-old Ellie grew up in the UK and discovered her love of broadcasting at a young age. She studied Spanish and English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, where she joined the student radio station Fresh Air Edinburgh. She shares a birthday with Scott Mills, and was born on 28th March 1993.
Starting Out in Local Radio
Before moving into national broadcasting, Ellie began her presenting career in local and regional radio. She worked across stations such as Capital FM Scotland, Key 103, Radio City and Rock FM, gaining invaluable experience in live presenting.
Her breakthrough came at Minster FM in York, where she became part of the team that went on to win a Gold ARIAS Team of the Year award. This early recognition gave Ellie strong momentum as she moved into bigger roles.
Ellie at Viking FM
In 2018, Ellie joined Viking FM, co-hosting the number-one commercial breakfast show across Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire alongside Alex Duffy. Her naturally upbeat style, humour and energy made her a favourite with morning listeners.
Her time at Viking FM included live stunts, outside broadcasts and major audience events. Even during a tough period recovering from long COVID, Ellie continued presenting remotely, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to her audience. She left Viking FM in March 2022.
Starting at the BBC
Ellie’s step into national broadcasting came when she joined BBC Radio 5 Live, presenting travel news on the network’s Breakfast and Drive programmes. She also started presenting programmes on BBC Radio 2, covering for presenters including Scott Mills and OJ Borg, as well as presenting for BBC local radio.
Joining BBC Radio 2 and the Scott Mills Show
In January 2025, Ellie moved to BBC Radio 2, taking on the role of morning travel presenter for the Scott Mills Breakfast Show, having been offered freelance opportunities previously. Scott’s audience quickly became familiar with her bright, friendly delivery, and Ellie has since become an integral part of the show’s sound.
Other work
Away from radio, Ellie has become an experienced events host, leading everything from corporate award ceremonies to large outdoor festivals, including Pride in Hull with crowds of up to 60,000 people.
She also works as a voice-over artist, recording radio adverts, corporate videos and online campaigns. TV viewers may recognise her from her regular appearances as a “Lunch Mate” on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4.
