The only really main thing that bugs me is that they are bleh slow as at finding new artists. I'd heard Little Boots' tracks about a year before R1 got hold of them, then they waffle on about how she's a "new act" etc. Er, n-uhh!

Alouette...deployer les ailes;

Wo I have just read through the whole thread and there seems to be some things that are unanimous. I had no idea that Sara Cox was recorded. I thought with the shuffle it would have to be live even if there is no prizes.

Things that Piss me off are not Jo Whiley herself but the way she just acts like a girlie around any guests at all. She is older than me for Gods sake and she has been in radio a long time to not be so unprofessional. And a lot of them are so young she could be their mother.

I hate the way events such as the big weekend and any special band events are promoted to within an inch of it's (Or our) lives. Then I hate the fact that the DJs go on and on about "Oh It was so wonderful" "Sorry for going on about it if you weren't there but you missed a real treat"

The fact that If I listen all day from Moyles to Mills then I have heard the same 10 songs 4 times and I am sick of them. There is no variety apart from on Edith's show where she plays somereally crap alternative stuff which is great but not really for 2 in the afternoon.

I really love listening to Moyles in the morning as he makes me laugh but there are so many things about him that make me want to run down there and wring his neck. Like the way he super name drops. Mentioning stuff then saying "Oooh no I can't talk about it on air" THEN BLOODY DON'T MENTION IT THEN! He is the worst culprit for rubbing it in that he went to an event and we didn't. I also get annoyed when he will say I have a ticket to such and such tonight but I don't think I will go - People have spent a fortune paying for tickets to these shows ans he can just pick and choose if he is going or not.

Above people have mentioned producre rachel but Aled is far worse. He is all corporate. All his twitters these days are don't forget to listen to this or that. I stopped reading his blog for the same reason and on air it is constant plugging and corporate bollocks.

Oh and another thing. I joined the FB pages for Moyles and Mills but they are both the same they just both promote radio 1 as a whole. i thought they were just going to be about that show.

That's it for now I think...

I'm sure you mean b-efore Nick started on the show - before he was there, Annie did the show on her own. Before Switch it was Mr Pearce.

Nope. When the INMWT Shows first moved to 9-10pm they had the 1xtra takeover on a saturday, then Annie did a show in between dance anthems and the surgery. It didnt last very long, maybe 6 weeks/2 months, and it was just before the whole switch thing started.

What comments have been made about Michael Jackson? I have missed this this morning...

If I remember correctly they were to the effect that the MJ tribute thing on tv was hastily organised, should have been done at a later date to give them more time to sort out somethin better, and I'm sure I think there were a few comments about the guys doin the voiceovers as well. It was more a criticism of the tribute than negative comments about jackson himself

Not impressed with censorship

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
