I am going to try and go and see this!! I could make a short break out of it, if I can find someone to go with me!! I am currently googling B&B's... the worst of the fact that the Festival is in August is the fact that you need to book really early, because people will arrive from all over the World.

Have any of you had a smash at being song writers for Scott's musical??

I have - I have blogged about it... it's all ended in disaster. It's funny that when you are tired, you feel sometimes you are creating pure genius. Basically, I was trying on the "record sound" on my phone which I managed to attach to an e-mail, and when I listened back to it this morning, someone is clearly shouting the word "PIG" out in the middle of the recording (there was an argument on Emmerdale farm whilst I was recording sound last night, and my phone has managed to pick it up).

Anyhow, any of you managed to do anything remotely sensible??

Well, with the whole Only Scotland thing, if it goes down well, Scott could take it on tour.

With the tour, there would be a lower budget for actors/actresses, so:

Scott : himself

Young Scott: Lloyd???

TOWDS: Stig? Matt Fincham? (he doesn't say much, and we all know how good he is at singing!)

Chappers: himself, he's the only one who can say Graham that well without putting it on!

Beccy: Herself/Matt Lucas. (wig of course.)

Also, with the Poster on page 1/2, Scott has a ring... Relationship? He's not mentioned it before!

Hahah, I said in the email it was Just Dance. And he only read the first 2 lines (well, when I heard it, I don't know if it was mentioned again), and so I had people all day calling me out on the boob touching/signing point, which was a pain as the lyrics went on to that! :P

I'm slightly worried about myself, I've been thinking about this way too much. Actually, this has been quite easy really, everything slots in to place well for a musical plot. And yes, Scott becomes a R1 DJ half way through Act 1 rather than the end, but it works best for pacing and fitting more afternoon stuff in, so nyah. :P Here's the start of my treatment for Scott Mills: The Musical.

No tagline ideas yet, but maybe Listen Again to the Life of... blah blah.

Song ideas aren't all there, but it's a mix of parodies of pop, musicals and also space for original songs.

--

Act 1

Over the top big opening song - about how great it is to be Scott Mills and to be the Radio 1 drivetime host. To be revisited as the finale song possibly.

Young Scott Mills wakes up, listening to Radio 1. He goes through a school day, or possibly the camping trip mentioned recently involving a teacher that ended up writing in to Dear Scott. At a point, he starts day dreaming again about being a great Radio 1 drivetime DJ by the name of Scott Mills (song parody: I Dreamt a Dream, Les Mis) and decides to get a career in radio.

A very posh Scott gets his first job at Power FM, and starts working his way up through various radio stations over the course of a scene. Song in it somewhere.

Scott, still eyeing up a job on Radio 1, realises he needs to start sounding less posh: and attends a lesson in a backwards version of My Fair Lady (song parody: The Rain in Spain, My Fair Lady) and eventually lands a job hosting the Early Breakfast show.

Happy that he's made a big step, things are going well for him, getting extra cash from the numerous cover slots of the Breakfast show (possibly a parody of ABBA: Money Money Money but that would be too far, maybe just another pop song about how things are going well).

However, things start a downhill spiral, as a show starts without him, his producer finds him wearing just a tshirt in a hotel room, and is does the show drunk.

Ashamed, Scott realises he must put more effort in to himself as a whole, goes on a self improvement mission (parody of Greece Lightning - Teeth Whitening) and works his way up through the Radio 1 schedule.

The final scene of Act 1 sees Scott on the verge of getting the drivetime gig: will his effort pay off, and get the dream job of having the second most popular show on Radio 1? Much to his joy, he does, and Act 1 finishes on a big, happy song (in the vein of Bright New Day ending Act 1 of Blood Brothers, but not a parody of that as it's not really well known).

--

Act Two

Still typing this up. Basic structure, to help me get through writing it:

Meets chappers, they get up to all sorts of pranks, meets Laura, there's a Britney megamix with the whole "Masterpieces" prank, and then attention turns to his coworkers as One Night With Laura happens, as she starts to find romance (Laura's Lovely - Scouting For Girls) and at the same time Chappers develops a thing for Scott's mum (parody: Scott Mills' Mum Has Got It Going On - Parody of Stacey's Mom). Split stage rendition of Love Handles (Laura about the runner up of Laura's Diary, Chappers about Mills' mum). Stuff happens, Laura eventually leaves, Beccy joins. With all the focus on the rest of the team, Scott starts to get fame hungry and eyes up a TV career (parody of Miley Cyrus - Fly on the Wall titled "Hole In The Wall"), and a Hoff song. Scott eventually realises Radio really is for him (Millsy isn't Dead - Scouting for Girls) and then it becomes all meta as the idea happens for a musical based on Scott's life. Reprise of opening song to finish.

Still need to work in Wing, and my parody of Just Dance. Possibly Wing singing inspires Scott to greater things (TV).

hang on a minute !

are UM going to be represented in the musical ?

just on the side of the stage, there could be a bloke sitting by his radio, on his computer & Scott then starts to be heard coming out of the radio & the guy at the computer starts pressing keys like mad, gets up & starts singing how much he likes Scott's show.

not sure if Jono can sing though.

    • I would rather do the new music show than the breakfast show early starts, being cheery and entertaining isn’t my vibe and being hip and on trend. With new music it’s a different kettle of fish that could get my teeth into and enjoy researching and planning of the show and coming up with ideas and making my mark in away that I don’t think I have the ideas for a breakfast. I don’t see how it could be alienating but I enjoy the niche and speciality of expertise that new music shows gives it’s good spot of giving you the headlines and setting the agenda of mainstream music.
    • Absolutely, Jack is such an incredible broadcaster already, incredibly entertaining with such brilliant music knowledge and his excitement is contagious, I've never really listened to New Music Shows like Future Sounds but I'm instantly invested in new music due to his show, as I'm sure many others are too.  yes the effects are a little strange but after listening back they're strangely charming when you get used to them.
    • Jack has smashed it He was born for this show, he said he’d been dreaming of it and you could tell. Such passion and energy as always with Jack but in a show that can grab people’s attention and drag them down the rabbit hole of new music if you had a keen interest in discovering new music but haven’t in a while, new music shows can be alienating with no familiarity until you ‘get into it’ - the new show has ensured you can ease into to get back into sync . i love the Zane influences - he will be the forefront of where every emerging and returning artist wants to be with this show . Very excited for this chapter
    • Oh I though they were nbh studios
    • Yes, I feel that unless it’s for a special sessions with a large ensemble band that for live sessions going out live on the radio. Never saw why they haven’t used the live lounge studio and feel that room could be used more.
    • Interesting now Zane has for apple interviewed anything from an artists that have charted and doing less interviews with new and emerging talents chatting to Shakira, Usher, Kelly Clarkson and Shania Twain. Yes, that is a positive thing about Jack Saunders. Although I don’t mind it from time to time for a presenter to be honest and spill an unsavoury opinion about music on the station like Annie did with Fall Out Boy.
    • Interesting Jack mentioned they've got new studios at Maida Vale; you'd think, with the move to Stratford, they wouldn't bother update the studios so close to the end...
    • I assume it's meant to appeal to a TikTok generation
    • Yep Jack is very much Radio 1's modern day Zane Lowe - but with the bonus that he does feel a bit a bit more open-minded and open to chart stuff than Zane was. I could never imagine Zane being a chart host the way Jack is - I always had the sense if Zane didn't approve of your music taste he'd make you well aware of it.
    • I will still call them sessions as feel with gigs it makes you think of a live tangible means of going to listen to a band play music and not virtually tuning in via the medium of radio.
    • He does what the show needs regardless of how annoying some people may find his presentation style is like. I feel and very much do hope he is in for the long haul and could atleast do four years where his energy may into be as always as bouncy. But he has the knowledge, passion and interaction and not so overbearing but very much so sense of confidence that you need. I think he could easily have a good Zane Lowe like era. Just hope that they consider doing a new late night live music show as I do miss that something of what he had in the early days of the indie show and when Huw Stephens was on live at the after ten slot
    • Speaking of the sessions, they've been renamed Live Gigs for any forum members not listening to the show & reading this later
    • I’ve found the jingles are annoying and going to grate on the listener quickly. It’s a good opening week with big name hottest records and sessions
    • With the effects I'm half expecting a massive whoooooo soon
